2012 NFL Mock Draft: 3 Teams That Need QB Help
While the cliche "the NFL is a quarterback-driven league" takes me to the edge, there's a reason why it's used so often.
It's true.
Before a struggling team can return to respectability, they must find a signal caller with leadership skills, arm strength and accuracy to build a team around.
These three clubs desperately need "that guy."
Indianapolis Colts
1 of 4Before you scroll to the bottom of the page to write a scathing comment about the fact that Peyton Manning is still on the Colts' roster, read my reasoning here.
No. 18 will not only be 36 before the 2012 season starts, but he's dealing with an extremely serious neck injury.
Not a finger injury.
A neck injury.
Even if he had no health issues, wouldn't it be in Indianapolis' best interest to begin planning for the future?
I'd say.
Curtis Painter is no franchise guy and neither is Dan Orlovsky.
Andrew Luck is there and the Colts have to make him the No. 1 overall pick.
In 1998, they took Manning then constructed the their team around him.
It all starts with the signal caller.
If any team knows that after this year, it's the Colts.
Seattle Seahawks
2 of 4I like Tarvaris Jackson.
I really do.
Seems like he gives it his all each week.
But let's be real, he's not a franchise quarterback.
Jackson has 10 touchdown passes and 12 interceptions on the year with a 76. 1 QB rating.
Not going to cut it.
If we've seen anything from the resilient Seahawks this season, it's that they're quite possibility a talented and accurate signal caller away from returning to NFC relevance.
They've recently spent high draft picks on offensive lineman, have the running game and a respectable defense.
Washington Redskins
3 of 4Enough with the Rex Grossman-John Beck facade, Washington.
Neither guy is a capable, franchise quarterback.
Why Mike Shanahan was so confident in either of them at the beginning of the year was beyond me.
Then again, he may have just been talking them up to the media.
The Redskins have a lot of holes, but as we all know, the basis of an NFL rebuilding effort is a quarterback.
Roy Helu looks to be a serviceable and multifaceted running back, the defense has quality pass rushers and with a few more weapons on the outside, they'd be onto something.
