NBA Trade Rumors: Guards That Will Be Dealt to a New Team Before Trade Deadline

Kelly ScalettaDec 5, 2011

There are a number of perimeter players who are on the trading block as we approach the Dec. 9th date where training camps start and players can start signing and trades can officially be made. There will be some trades before the start of the regular season, and these are my best guesses for which guards will be shipped before that happens.

Rajon Rondo is a name which has come out a couple of times so far. First, before the draft, there were rumors of his being offered in exchange for Russell Westbrook and then, more recently, there were rumors of his being offered in exchange for Chris Paul

It's evident that the Celtics are trying to deal their All-Star point guard whatever it is they are saying publicly, and eventually, they'll find a suitor. While Rondo is an outstanding distributor, he's not the type of point guard who can generate offense without talent around him. He simply doesn't have the shot to do so.

With the Celtics big three all aging and/or coming to the end of their contracts, they are motivated to find a point guard who can score.

Chris Paul is easily the most sought after point guard on the trading block, and he will be dealt, though to whom is a big mystery. After the whole Carmelo Anthony saga that had everyone outright sick of hearing rumors between the start of the season and the deadline last year, no one on the Hornets has any desire to go through that.

The Hornets are motivated to make a move sooner rather than later, and with the number of bidders, it's not like they are going to have problems making a deal. The one hitch would be Paul himself, who might out of insistence on playing for the Knicks essentially boycott any other team.

With the Knicks having so little to offer in return the Hornets could just refrain from trading him rather than essentially giving him away to the Knicks.

Jamal Crawford is a player who is being pursued by a number of teams like the Chicago Bulls and Miami Heat. While he s a free agent, it's possible he'll be secured through a sign and trade if he commands more than the MLE asking price.

Don't be surprised if the Hawks work out a sign and trade for Crawford getting back the likes of Kyle Korver or Mike Miller.

While the Hawks might get more for Crawford if he weren't a free agent, Miller or Korver certainly represent an improvement over nothing at all.

Because of the new CBA teams under the cap can now take 150 percent of what they trade out if they are below the luxury tax. That means that Miller or Korver could get a return of $7.5 million to $8 million.

Monta Ellis is a player who has been on the trading block since the trade deadline last year. Ellis for Andre Iguodala was discussed before the trade deadline. There are too many things about the trade that just work ideally for both teams to not see this happening.

The Warriors need a stat-filler who plays defense more than a pure scorer. The 76ers need the former more than the latter. The two teams have what the other needs, and this trade makes too much sense not to happen and to not happen before the season starts.
