NBA Rumors: Knicks, Lakers and Big-Market Teams Still Eyeing Superstar Additions
Superstars Chris Paul, Dwight Howard and Deron Williams have more than a few reasons to find new homes.
Their impending free agency at the end of the season is unique leverage and is causing some of the most frequent chatter of the season.
With a tentative deal in place between players and owners, the talk of big-name moves has already started.
According to ESPN:
"The players did not get all that they hoped for on sign-and-trade rules, sources said. For the first two years of the 10-year deal—either side can get out of it after six—tax-paying teams still will be eligible to do sign-and-trade deals. That opens the door for such impending free agents as Chris Paul, Dwight Howard and Deron Williams to be moved to big-market teams that are already over the salary cap (i.e. Lakers, Knicks and Mavericks).
"
Mark Cuban, owner of the defending champion Dallas Mavericks, won't be shy about going after a star he wants.
We know the Lakers are interested in just about anyone who can help them get younger and better players—at the same time.
And it is widely known that the Knicks are believed to be one more player away from truly contending.
There are also the Chicago Bulls to think about. The defending Eastern Conference champions have quite a few question marks surrounding their roster—despite returning virtually all of their starters and reserves.
How this will all play out is anyone's guess. Heck, this tentative deal could still fall apart.
But should NBA basketball be back to stay, we can expect big-name trade talk all year long.
There is almost nothing these teams won't do in pursuit of a championship; players are always looking for the best opportunities.
Big-name clubs such as New York, Los Angeles, Dallas and Chicago won't be held hostage by their lack of cap space.
