NBA Trade Rumors: Why the Los Angeles Clippers Must Trade for Andre Iguodala
The Los Angeles Clippers have a gaping hole at the small forward position and the perfect man to fill it—Andre Iguodala—just happens to be on the market.
The Clippers roster is loaded with one talent and they only need one major addition to transform from exciting losers to legitimate title contenders.
I know, that's big talk considering they were just 32-50 last year. But hear me out on this one.
Mo Williams isn't an elite point guard, but he's obviously good enough to start on a title contender. He did in for several years as LeBron's wingman in Cleveland. He doesn't have to do anything special, just put up a few points and feed the ball to the Clippers' scorers.
Eric Gordon is about two years away from placing a stranglehold on the "NBA's Best Shooting Guard" title. The kid averaged 22.3 points, 4.4 assists and 2.9 rebounds last season.
He has a beautiful stroke, plays his ass off every night and is capable of making plays that maybe 10 other guys can make. Just check out this filthy crossover/dunk that he unleashed on Utah last season.
Of course, Gordon's work largely goes unnoticed because of the monster that is Blake Griffin. Griffin is the league's most exciting athlete by far.
He plays like one of those aliens from Space Jam, constantly dunking on people with no regard for human life.
And at center, the Clippers have a promising young big man in DeAndre Jordan. He is far from polished offensively, but with his length, athleticism and energy, he will be a beast defensively.
He may never develop a solid offensive game, but he doesn't have to with Gordon and Griffin on board. He just needs to grab rebounds, swat shots, beat his chest and not do anything too stupid. He can definitely be a Tyson Chandler-like presence for L.A.
So that just leaves small forward, where Iguodala would fit in beautifully. He's struggled as "The Man" in Philadelphia, but he flourishes when his offensive workload is scaled back.
He's the perfect glue guy, as he exhibited during Team USA's FIBA World Championship run in 2010.
He is an elite defender, an excellent rebounder for his size (5.8 per game last year) and is athletic enough to run with the rest of the Clippers.
A starting lineup of Williams, Gordon, Iguodala, Griffin and Jordan would make the Clippers more exciting than they already are.
More importantly, they would immediately be in the mix with the NBA's elite.
The Clippers need to make the Sixers an offer they can't refuse (Chris Kaman, multiple draft picks) and bring in Iguodala.
