How Tim Tebow and the Denver Broncos Will Defeat the San Diego Chargers
A week ago, Tim Tebow single-handedly drove the Denver Broncos 95 yards downfield to beat the New York Jets 17-13 and surprised the world in the process.
This week will be an important matchup for second place in the division on the line for Denver and with a win and an Oakland Raiders loss, the Broncos could find themselves atop the AFC West.
It won't be an easy game for Denver to win, but still a very realistic prospect.
Here are five ways Tebow can lead the Broncos to victory over the San Diego Chargers in Week 12.
Roll-out Options
1 of 5It's safe to say that when you have a quarterback like Tebow who isn't proficient or reliable throwing the ball, the more options he has from play to play, the better off the Broncos will be.
I've always liked the approach of more plays for the Broncos' quarterback that have him rolling out. It keeps the opposing defense off balance, while opening up the option to run the ball or throw it.
Besides, I've also noticed that some of Tebow's best throws come when he is rolling out of the pocket.
The Broncos should utilize this more and could catch the Chargers off guard, expecting Tebow to run when he passes instead.
It wouldn't be the end of the world if Tebow runs either as he has proven he is a fast, strong runner with the ability to break tackles. Running might bode well for Denver going up against San Diego's 23rd-ranked rushing attack.
Establish the Run
2 of 5As I mentioned in the last slide, the Chargers have the 23rd-ranked run defense in the NFL.
That will be a huge weakness that the Broncos must exploit early and often if they want to be successful.
Whether it's Tebow, Willis McGahee or both running the ball, the Broncos are one of the best in the business in doing so with the fourth-ranked rushing attack in the NFL.
They should have no problem establishing the run, opening up the field for Tebow who could always use an easier time throwing the ball.
Everybody in the house, including San Diego, knows what Denver will do, but so did the Jets last week. That shouldn't stop them from going with their bread and butter in hopes of setting up some semblance of a passing attack.
Keep Up the D
3 of 5Let's face it, the primary reason Tebow is 4-1 is because of his defense.
The Broncos have been a force on the defensive side of the ball during some of the worst offensive outputs Denver has had this season.
In the three games which Tebow and the Broncos offense struggled, Denver's defense held their opponents to 15, 10 and 13 points respectively. And no surprise, in each of those low-scoring affairs, the Broncos have won.
The recipe for Denver's success starts with the defense and seems to end with Tebow.
The more low-scoring this game is, the better the chance the Broncos will come out on top.
Win the Field Position Battle
4 of 5The Broncos might not put up a ton of points in this game, but like last week, if they can win the field position battle they'll be in good shape.
Against the Jets, Denver couldn't do anything offensively for the majority of the game. However, because of good defense and punter Brian Colquitt, the Broncos were able to hand the Jets a long field every time they handed the ball back.
Colquitt will need to do that again this week, keeping up the 49 yards per punt average on the eight punts he had in Week 11.
Give San Diego a long field to work with and leave the rest to your defense.
Tebow and the Broncos have shown that if you give them enough chances to score and a short field to do it, eventually they'll get in the end zone.
Keep the Score Close for "Tebow Time"
5 of 5Not even the haters can ignore the fact that Tebow has been a clutch player for Denver this season.
He has had two late-game drives that have either propelled his team to victory or extended the game to overtime.
It's beginning to be called "Tebow time" in many circles and deservedly so. Last week against New York, Tebow improbably drove 95 yards down the field to put his team over the top.
So the recipe is simple: Keep the game close late and most likely Tebow will do the rest. He certainly has a knack for coming through in pressure-packed situations.
I'm sure at this point, Broncos' fans won't have a problem leaving the game in Tebow's hands down the stretch.
It's certainly proved successful thus far and if it isn't broke, don't fix it.
