Cowboys vs. Redskins: 5 Halftime Adjustments Washington Should Make
We should be in for a great finish as the Dallas Cowboys take on the Washington Redskins at FedEx Field.
Washington is hoping to rebound from last week's disappointing loss to Miami and slow down a surging Cowboys offense.
Here are five halftime adjustments Washington should make if it wants to come out on top.
No More Mistakes
Washington has already been plagued by a number of stupid mistakes early in this game, most notably Fred Davis' fumble deep in their own territory.
In the second half, the Redskins need to limit their errors and play smart football. The Cowboys offense has an abundance of weapons and will continue to capitalize off of gift turnovers.
Establish the Run Game Early
The Redskins must establish the ground game immediately in the second half. They have not been good with the rush early and need to pound the run to keep the Cowboys D on its heels. This should open up the playbook for Grossman.
Play-action anyone?
Third Down Conversions
Washington was not able to convert on a third down attempt in the first quarter. A lot of this problem can be attributed to its inability to get even average gains on early downs.
Although they did step up in the second quarter, leaving themselves with third-and-long will not cut it in the second half. The Redskins need to focus on moving the ball on first and second down if they want any chance of keeping the lead.
O-Line Push
The Redskins NEED to get solid O-Line play for the rest of the game. Expect Dallas' front seven to bring the heat and get after Grossman in the second half. If Washington wants to win this game, it must give Grossman time, because he is capable of making big throws.
Help Out Your QB
Washington's receivers need to continue to make catches in the second half. They dropped a number of important passes early, but have stepped up late in the half.
The Redskins receivers must continue to help out Grossman and continue to come away with the ball in the second half.
