Fantasy Football Week 11: Damian Williams and Under-the-Radar WRs You Must Start

Mike ChiariNov 17, 2011

With just a few weeks remaining in the regular seasons of most fantasy football leagues, Week 11 is undoubtedly an important one for many owners. Because of that, it is important to pull out all the stops, including starting players you normally wouldn't.

Bye weeks have come at inopportune times for top wide receivers such as Pittsburgh's Mike Wallace and New Orleans' Marques Colston. Here are three under-the-radar wide receivers you can feel good about starting in their place, though.

Michael Crabtree—San Francisco 49ers

San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Michael Crabtree most certainly hasn't been the big-play guy he was expected to be coming out of college, but over the past several weeks he has been a consistent performer. Prior to last week Crabtree had three consecutive games with at least five catches as quarterback Alex Smith has been looking for him with more regularity.

With running back Frank Gore banged up, the Niners may look to lean on the passing game a bit more than usual on Sunday. They surely will have the opponent to do it against as well, as the Arizona Cardinals have one of the league's worst secondaries.

Don't expect explosive plays from Crabtree, but he could be an especially valuable commodity in PPR leagues this week. Crabtree has been Smith's most trusted receiver recently and if the 49ers are ever going to air it out, it's going to be against the Cards.

Denarius Moore—Oakland Raiders

Oakland Raiders rookie wide receiver Denarius Moore showed flashes of greatness early in the season, but he went several weeks without making an impact. That has certainly changed since Carson Palmer took over as the starting quarterback, though, as Moore has been his favorite receiver by a long shot.

Moore has nine catches for 184 yards and two touchdowns in Palmer's two starts and seems to have established himself as the No. 1 receiver in a muddled corps. Oakland seems more than willing to sling the ball around with Palmer under center, so Moore figures to continue producing.

He will have a great matchup on Sunday as well against the Minnesota Vikings. The Vikings are 30th in the league against the pass and have routinely gotten torched on deep passes. Moore is more than capable of getting down the field and making game-changing plays, so it wouldn't be surprising to see him and Palmer hook up plenty this week.

Damian Williams—Tennessee Titans

Although Tennessee Titans running back Chris Johnson seems to be heating up, the Titans have been a passing team all season behind quarterback Matt Hasselbeck. With that in mind, they are unlikely to abandon the passing game anytime soon. The main beneficiary in recent weeks has been second-year receiver Damian Williams.

Williams looks to have surpassed Nate Washington as Hasselbeck's main target, as his numbers would attest to. Williams has at least four catches in four of the past five weeks, and he has also reached the endzone in three of the last five weeks.

Last week against the Carolina Panthers, Williams had his best game as a pro with 107 receiving yards and a score. He figures to have another advantageous matchup on Sunday against the Atlanta Falcons. While the Falcons have cleaned up their act lately, they have generally been very susceptible against the pass. Because of that, Williams should be in for another great performance.
