What's At Stake?

Oakland is hoping to make its first playoff appearance since 2002 when the Raiders lost the Super Bowl to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. They hold a one-game advantage over San Diego, Kansas City and Denver. They can't afford to slip up against a struggling Vikings squad.

As for Minnesota, Christian Ponder is four games old and it's been a roller-coaster start. The 12th overall pick has shown glimpses of starting-caliber talent, but has made some expected rookie mistakes. Other than developing young players, this game doesn't hold major significance for the Vikings.

Raiders Injury Report

QB Jason Campbell (out, collarbone), DB Chris Johnson (out, groin), WR Jacoby Ford (questionable, foot), DB Michael Huff (questionable, ankle) and RB Darren McFadden (questionable, foot)

Vikings Injury Report

DB Husain Abdullah (questionable, concussion)

Fantasy Start 'Em, Sit 'Em and Sleeper

Start 'Em: RB Michael Bush (OAK)—With McFadden battling a foot ailment, Bush has stepped in and performed admirably in his place. He's totaled 47 fantasy points over the past two weeks and will be a must-start player again this week as long as McFadden doesn't make a miracle recovery.

Sit 'Em: WR Darrius Heyward-Bey (OAK)—Heyward-Bey scored 42 points during a four-week span prior to the team's bye and it appeared that he was finally developing into a go-to receiver. He hasn't caught a pass since Oakland's week off and can be safely removed from lineups.

Sleeper: TE Visanthe Shiancoe (MIN)—Young quarterbacks love to utilize their tight ends and Ponder is no different. Since Jimmy Graham, Heath Miller, Owen Daniels and Dallas Clark are all on bye this week, Shiancoe is a solid under-the-radar replacement.

What They're Saying

The San Francisco Chronicle's Vittorio Tafur examines the quick rise of Carson Palmer both on the field and in the locker room. He also opines that Palmer will help the development of young receivers like Denarius Moore.

"

"Palmer not only asked receivers to stay behind for extra throws during the bye week, but he works the locker room most days like a cross between a politician, a drill sergeant and a reporter.

It's a rare situation, a quarterback coming out of a holdout/semi-retirement and joining a new team midseason."

"

Jim Souhan of the Minneapolis Star Tribune unveiled his seven-step plan to getting the Vikings back on track moving forward (beyond 2011). His first step is one that plenty of Minnesota fans should support, especially with this season slipping away.

"

"1. Rest Peterson: Most great running backs have the shelf life of organic, whole-wheat bread. Don't waste Peterson's legs chasing a third or fourth victory. Save him for the future, when he might be of some use in a playoff race."

"

Raiders Player to Watch: DB Tyvon Branch

Branch has been Oakland's most consistent defender all season. He's picked up 69 tackles in nine games and has provided some much-needed stability in the secondary. While it would be nice to see him make more momentum-shifting plays, it's hard to argue with his consistency thus far.

Vikings Player to Watch: WR Percy Harvin

Harvin has been able to jump one big hurdle so far in 2011 by staying healthy. He's played in all nine games for Minnesota and has made 37 catches for 386 yards. Aside from Adrian Peterson, Harvin is the Vikings' biggest game-changer.

Key Matchup: Christian Ponder vs. Oakland secondary

Oakland's pass defense is below average and that should give Ponder a chance to make some plays. His performance in the second half will likely decide Minnesota's fate and when he makes a mistake, the Raiders must capitalize.

On the Hot Seat: Raiders QB Carson Palmer

The Raiders paid a steep price to acquire Palmer because they believed he was the final piece to their playoff puzzle. He's starting to settle into his new home, but will need start protecting the ball (eight turnovers in three games) a lot better to keep Oakland in a playoff spot.

Prediction: Raiders 24, Vikings 21
