Brock Lesnar and 8 Fighters Who Should Headline the Next 4 UFC on Fox Events
Now that the first UFC on Fox has come and gone, it is time to start looking ahead to the future events on Fox.
Under the terms of the deal with the UFC, Fox will air four events per year on the main station.
That means that four times a year, the UFC will get the same publicity as the NFL, MLB and all those other big sports.
For its first event on Fox, the UFC went with the heavyweight title and Cain Velasquez vs. Junior dos Santos.
What matchups could it do next?
Brock Lesnar vs. Junior dos Santos
1 of 4Or Brock Lesnar vs. Cain Velasquez, or Brock Lesnar vs. Frank Mir...or Brock Lesnar vs. anyone, for that matter.
Cain vs. JDS pulled in 5.7 million viewers.
Putting the UFC's biggest draw—and a household name—on Fox would bring in even bigger numbers. It wouldn't matter if a title was on the line or not.
Anderson Silva vs. Chael Sonnen
2 of 4The matchup we've all been asking for since August of 2010 could be a great one for Fox.
Even the most casual MMA fan knows the names Anderson Silva and Chael Sonnen, and he or she likely knows what happened at UFC 117.
Sonnen almost dethroned the greatest fighter of all time, only to lose via triangle choke in the latest finish in UFC history.
Since that time, Sonnen has been vocal about wanting a rematch, and after his victory over Brian Stann, he made sure that it was well known that he wants to fight Silva.
This fight has yet to be agreed on, but it will likely take place sometime in March or April.
Jon Jones vs. Rashad Evans
3 of 4Another match that we've all been waiting for since UFC 128 would put the light heavyweight title on the line with Jon Jones taking on his former teammate, Rashad Evans.
These two had a highly publicized falling out, and ever since then, the fans have been clamoring for these two to have the grudge match that everybody seems to want.
Unfortunately, injuries to both fighters have twice derailed the fight, but should Jones get past Lyoto Machida at UFC 140, this fight will likely be on the horizon.
Jones is one of the UFC's brightest young stars, and getting him national attention on Fox could help him bring the UFC into a new golden age.
Dominick Cruz vs. Urijah Faber or Brian Bowles
4 of 4Probably the most likely of all four of these matchups would put the bantamweight title on the line with Dominick Cruz facing off against Urijah Faber or Brian Bowles.
As much as I hate to say it, Dominick Cruz does not have the name value to sell a PPV.
The first UFC card that Cruz headlined was UFC 132.
UFC 132 was on Fourth of July weekend, generally a big-selling weekend for the UFC. It was an absolutely stacked card, featuring Wanderlei Silva and Chris Leben, Carlos Condit and Dong Hyun Kim, Tito Ortiz and Ryan Bader, Melvin Guillard and Shane Roller, and more.
UFC 132 also featured one of the most well known names from the WEC, Urijah Faber.
Unfortunately, the event only did 350,000 buys.
Cruz and Faber may not be able to sell a PPV, but putting them on Fox could get more publicity for the lower weight classes so that future PPVs featuring bantamweights and featherweights do well.
