NFL Week 11 Picks: New York Jets Receive Late-Season Gift in Broncos

Gabe ZaldivarNov 15, 2011

The NFL is not in the habit of giving. This is a league that takes, and takes and takes. In the case of the New York Jets in Week 11, a rare gift is tied up with a cute little bow on Thursday night.

We will be promised for the next couple days that the Broncos and Jets will deliver one hell of a football game. We are not fools, so please do not play us like some.

This game has all the makings of a snooze-fest that the Jets control from start to finish. Well, that is what should happen if Rex Ryan’s boys have hopes of winning back the division.

These are the games that you just can’t drop if you are a playoff contender destined to shake things up at the end of the season.

If you take the last weekend as the bubble to concentrate on, you would think the Broncos were primed and ready to deliver an upset for the opening game of Week 11, but that would ignore everything we know already.

The Broncos have turned into a wildcat crazy team that seems to find a way to score despite a one-dimensional attack.

That kind of offense may work on the Kansas City Chiefs, but the results will be far more different against the Jets.

The Chiefs may be a great many things, but a fine rushing defense they are not. Where many see a stirring victory for the Broncos, I see worry.

The Jets are far better defending the rush. The Broncos will have to test the air with Tim Tebow at some point Thursday, and it is less than 50 percent a receiver will be anywhere near the thrown pass.

I take the Jets defense, and despite their inconsistencies, I take their offense as well. Tebow may be delivering some entertaining football, but his style will be trumped by a solid defense that is ready for him.
