Tim Tebow Needs to Beat New York Jets to Silence Critics

Eric BowmanNov 14, 2011

Tim Tebow's critics say he can't be an NFL quarterback, can't make accurate throws and can't have a successful career in league.

But you know what? Tebow can win, and that is what truly matters in the NFL.

However, Tebow needs a marquee victory against the New York Jets in Week 11 to truly silence his critics.

The Denver Broncos' quarterback has begun to quiet some with each win, but there will always be the Tebow haters.

On Sunday, Tebow picked up his third win since taking over as the Broncos starting quarterback position, and he's also led the Broncos to back-to-back wins for the first time since 2009.

So what if Tebow only completed two of eight passes for 69 yards on Sunday against the Kansas City Chiefs

He beat a division opponent, and that is what an NFL quarterback should strive to do. Tebow then did the right thing by tweeting some thank you's for his recent win.

Shout outs to the lineman are always a great idea. After all, they are the ones protecting Tebow.

Broncos' head coach John Fox told the Denver Post after the game that the only thing he cares about at the end of the day is the score.

"

"I'll leave those statistics to you guys. "The statistic that is important in (the locker room) is winning. This game is only fun when you win."

The second-year quarterback from Florida was used to winning a lot before he was drafted by the Broncos, but now that he is the starter he's doing everything in his power to make sure his team wins.

Yes, it definitely helps when his defense is playing lights out, but this is a team sport, and Tebow still has to produce on the field no matter how his defense plays. A sloppy defensive game is no excuse for Tebow not playing well.

Tebow's victories as the starter this season have come over the Miami Dolphins, Oakland Raiders and the Chiefs.

None of those are outstanding wins by any means, but beating the Jets on Thursday night would certainly turn a lot of heads.

The Jets' defense is No. 8 in the NFL against the pass and No. 15 against the run, which means Tebow has to be on his A-game.

If Tebow tosses up another pitiful stat line, it again won't matter if he wins the game. That's not going to be easy, though, so he might be better off getting in a rhythm and throwing the ball more than eight times in a game.

He'll need the Broncos defense to keep the Jets' offense in check, but that shouldn't be too hard if New York plays like it did this past weekend.

Rex Ryan loves the spotlight, and you better believe he wants to shut Tebow down. The Jets may let up a bit knowing they're up against Tebow, who is far from Tom Brady's status on the field.

That wouldn't be wise, however, as Tebow thrives when a team underestimates him.

The Jets should play much better in Week 11, but coming off a short week, it could hurt them, especially since they have to travel.

Winning cures all in sports, and if Tebow continues his streak he can put and end to some of critics. The Tebow haters are likely to exist forever, but they won't much to say if he keeps winning.
