Richard LangfordNov 14, 2011

Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Michael Vick played almost the entire game against the Arizona Cardinals with broken ribs, according to reporter Albert Breer.

Vick has taken a pounding week after week, and his ribs are just the latest of his injury troubles this season.

For all of those Philadelphia Eagles fans still holding onto the thread of hope that Michael Vick would start, you can officially stop dreaming.

Fox NFL Insider Jay Glazer is reporting on twitter about Vick’s status for Sunday’s game against the Giants:

From the practices this week and comments made by the team, Vince Young will start. Without Jeremy Maclin Young will be a risky start, but could yield big numbers in a potent Eagles offense.

According to Delaware Online, sources say that Philadelphia Eagles' quarterback Michael Vick will miss Sunday night's game against the New York Giants with broken ribs. This means that the Eagles, who are already teetering on the brink of playoff elimination, will have to turn to backup Vince Young.

This obviously disqualifies Vick as a potential starter in fantasy leagues and makes Young a decent sleeper candidate thanks to the Eagles' assortment of weapons.

NFL Network fantasy guru Michael Fabiano is also reporting that Vick will be out.

As we get closer to Sunday it sounds more and more likely that the Eagles are going to be without their star QB. Here is the latest update courtesy of Eagles beat writer Nick Fierro:

It's pretty hard to run away from linebackers when you can barely walk. If Vick can't go against the Giants, it's Vince Young time in Philly.

Not exactly what Eagles' fans want to hear as they face essentially a elimination game against their division rival. Check back for more updates, but at this point, it looks like it will take a small miracle to get him back on the field in time for Sunday.

ESPN's Adam Schefter tweeted the latest news about Vick and his ribs, and some folks may not like it.

The word "unlikely" is key, which indicates nothing is set in stone yet. Still, though, if I had Vick on my fantasy team I would prepare myself as if he weren't going to play.

There is still plenty of time before Sunday's game against division rival, the New York Giants, which means Vick could still play.

It's looking like Vick will be a game-time decision, and even if he does play it's uncertain how affective he will be. The giants stout defense will be after him, and Vick is subject to injury more than any other quarterback in the league.

Obviously, broken ribs can be problematic for a quarterback. They can affect the throwing motion and can also get in a QB's head and rattle his confidence. The ribs are completely exposed to rushing defenders in the throwing motion.

However, I wouldn't expect this injury to keep Vick from taking the field since he already played essentially an entire game with the injury.

However, you never know how someone's body will respond to an injury. And while Vick played with the injury, he played poorly. He was just 16 for 34 with 128 yards, no touchdowns and two interceptions.

The Eagles will play at the New York Giants next week, and at 3-6, they desperately need a win. The Dream Team can't afford any more losses if they want to make the playoffs.

Andy Reid and Vick will do everything they can to get the franchise QB onto the field.

There will be plenty of news and updates on this injury and Vick's status as the week goes on. So, be sure to check this page often as we update it with all the latest news, speculation and analysis.
