UFC on Fox 1 Results: 4 Prelim Fights That Could Have Been on the Main Card
On Saturday night, the UFC made it's debut on Fox, and aired only one fight.
Many fans were surprised when they first heard that, but there was a full undercard that took place beforehand.
However, would it have been a full main card, here's four fights from the preliminary card that would have made great additions to the main card.
Maybe these wouldn't have been on a normal main card based on name value, but these were the four best fights off the prelims.
Alex Caceres vs. Cole Escovedo
1 of 4Who would have thought this would be one of the better fights of the night?
Alex Caceres put on a clinic against Cole Escovedo and won all three rounds by utilizing his taekwondo, and some flashy techniques like the one in the picture.
Caceres finally earned his first win in the UFC, and it looks like bantamweight is the right weight class for him.
As far as Escovedo, he is likely on his way out the door after a third straight loss in the UFC.
Ricardo Lamas vs. Cub Swanson
2 of 4This fight was a back and forth battle that could have ended well before it did.
Cub Swanson faced off against Ricardo Lamas, and at one point in the fight, Swanson had a tight guillotine locked in, but couldn't get Lamas to tap.
In the second round, Lamas was able to take the back of the jiu-jitsu black belt, and from there he ended up with a tight arm triangle, and got the submission.
Dustin Poirier vs. Pablo Garza
3 of 4This was one of the most relevant fights on the preliminary card, as featherweights, Dustin Poirier and Pablo Garza faced off in an attempt to climb the ladder.
The winner was likely one fight away from a title shot, and Poirier made a serious statement.
Poirier was able to control the entire fight, and in the second round, he locked in a D'Arce choke, and was then able to roll Garza onto his back, and get the tap.
Garza will likely come back looking for another explosive win, and Poirier will likely get a title shot with one more win.
Clay Guida vs. Benson Henderson
4 of 4Duh.
This fight earned fight of the night honors, and is likely in the running for fight of the year.
These two battled it out for 15 minutes, displaying every possible facet of MMA, as there was striking, clinch work, wrestling, ground work, submission attempts and submissions defended.
Not just that, but they went at a furious pace for the entire 15 minutes.
This fight would have been a great addition to a main card, but hopefully, we'll see it on TV soon.
