MLB Free Agency: Albert Pujols and 5 Players Boston Red Sox Will Foolishly Chase
MLB free agency is upon us, and there are multiple candidates out there to fill voids that the Boston Red Sox will have for the 2012 season.
Albert Pujols is one of seven candidates out there who the Sox will chase that they just should not be making a run at.
Some don't fit into the payroll for the Sox, and others just aren't even worth a look. All are picks from an article by Lenny Neslin on Boston.com.
Albert Pujols
1 of 5Albert Pujols is on every teams' radar this offseason. He is the most coveted MLB free agent and even the Red Sox want to snag him.
However, he would have to DH for the Sox and Pujols is not one of those players who would be willing to just hit. He wants to be on the field and play defense.
Prince Fielder
2 of 5Prince Fielder won't be cheap either and the Red Sox have some money that they could use to get Fielder, but that would mean putting him at DH.
Fielder is a pretty good first defensive player, and he will be looking at a place to play defense and offense an equal amount of time.
Jose Reyes
3 of 5Jose Reyes would be a great presence in the Sox clubhouse, but do the Sox need another huge contract that will last six seasons?
Sure, Reyes has the speed and the flash of a star player, but do the Sox need another star personality in their crowded dugout?
The Sox have already picked up Marco Scutaro's option, so if they go after Reyes, they are just driving up the price for another team to get him.
C.J. Wilson
4 of 5C.J. Wilson is not worth the money. Wilson is mediocre and would be a great four or five starter, but he wants ace money. That is why he will be heading to the Los Angeles Angels.
The Sox would be better off with Mark Buehrle as a second lefty. Buehrle was the ace of the Chicago White Sox and can probably take the pressure of a big market city such as Boston.
David DeJesus
5 of 5It is true that David DeJesus has played every outfield position, but he is starting to become more injury-prone as he ages.
DeJesus had the worst year of his career in 2011 and is on the low end of free agents this winter. The Sox would be taking a risk if they sign DeJesus.
