NFL Power Rankings: Pretenders You Can Forget About After Week 10

Wes ODonnellNov 8, 2011

As incredible as it is, a few preseason favorites are quickly falling by the wayside.

On top of that, upstart teams are quickly looking more and more like phonies as well.

With Week 10 of the NFL season rapidly approaching (the Raiders and Chargers play on Thursday night) playoff scenarios are quickly being formed throughout the league.

A number of teams will be out to prove their legitimacy this week, but there are also teams we can forget about.

Here are some pretenders you can start to forget about after Week 10.

Philadelphia Eagles (3-5)

Philadelphia blew a golden opportunity to take a step forward in the NFC with a home game against the Chicago Bears on Monday Night Football. Instead, they lost their way once again and now sit at an abysmal 3-5, only one game better than the team they traded backup quarterback Kevin Kolb to this summer.

Kolb, who is now injured and unlikely to play in his return to Philadelphia this week, has been anything but good for the Cardinals and has as many wins on the year as backup quarterback John Skelton.

Point being is that even when the Eagles beat the Cardinals this week it will mean almost nothing.

If they lose to Cardinals then you can start talking draft.

Philadelphia is chasing a 6-2 New York Giants teams, whose schedule is brutal, but would have to hope the Giants finish 3-5 or 2-6 to have a chance at catching them.

Buffalo Bills (5-3) or Dallas Cowboys (4-4)

The winner of this game won't ease concerns over their consistency, but the loser is likely headed towards draft room discussions sooner than later.

The Bills were off to a great start, but they were dominated by the divisional rival Jets this weekend and look to be fading fast.

As for Dallas, injuries continue to haunt some of their top players and, frankly, they aren't that good of a football team.

Both play in difficult divisions and both are on the outskirts of wild card potential.

The loser of this game, which is in Dallas, is heading for a rough remainder of the season.

Kansas City Chiefs (4-4)

Kansas City fooled us there for a few weeks when they charged for three straight wins and a share of the AFC West lead, but then they completely fell apart against the previously winless Miami Dolphins.

They play in a dreadful division and can't be completely scratched off regardless of this week's outcome, but a loss at home to Tim Tebow and the Denver Broncos, who just beat the Raiders in the Black Hole, would be a painful body blow to the Chiefs' remote chances of defending their division crown.

A win would help considering it is a division game, but there isn't much to take away from a Broncos team that is trying to figure out its future by playing Tim Tebow right now.

The Chiefs are the pure definition of pretender.
