What's At Stake?
For the Raiders, a playoff spot is still at stake in the AFC West.
The Chiefs, Chargers and Raiders are all 4-3 going into this week and a win here would be huge over a divisional rival.
It seemed that everyone thought the Chargers would be the lock to win that division this year, but the Chiefs are currently riding a four-game winning streak and have the hot hand. A win by Oakland would be huge to gain a leg up in the race.
The Broncos have to figure out their future soon.
Tim Tebow, Demaryius Thomas and Knowshon Moreno are all question marks going forward with John Fox and John Elway’s regime in Denver.
They are being evaluated each and every game and it could impact what the franchise does in free agency and the draft this offseason.
Broncos Injury Report (via CBSSports.com)
RB Willis McGahee – QST (Hand) – McGahee returned to practice this week after having surgery eight days ago on his injured hand. If he starts this week it would impact Knowshon Moreno and Lance Ball’s touches greatly.
DB Quinton Carter – DBT (Concussion) – Carter, a fourth-round draft choice, just won the starting job a few weeks ago but will need to pass concussion tests to get back on the field.
Raiders Injury Report (via CBSSports.com)
RB Darren McFadden – QST (Foot) – It doesn’t seem likely that McFadden will be able to tear into the Broncos like he normally does this week.
Michael Bush would get his first start of the season if McFadden were indeed out.
TE Kevin Boss – PRB (Concussion) – Boss returned to practice yesterday and should be back in the starting lineup in Week 9. Boss has not lived up to expectations in Oakland and has just eight catches and one touchdown on the season.
Fantasy Start 'Em, Sit' Em and Sleeper
Start ‘Em: Michael Bush
With McFadden most likely not playing, Bush is going to be a top-tier running back this week.
The Raiders love pounding the rock and excel at blocking from each position on the field. Anyone could have a monster day with guys who are good at and pride themselves on making blocks.
Sit ‘Em: Tim Tebow
Tebow looked okay for one quarter against the Miami Dolphins but the reality is that he isn’t ready to play QB in the NFL against hungry contenders.
He was mauled by the Lions and will be pillaged by the Raiders this week.
Sleeper: Carson Palmer
The Broncos give up the most fantasy points to any quarterback and this could be the week that Carson returns to form after his awful showing before the bye.
He has had a week to practice in the teams’ offense and learn his receivers so I expect a good day from him.
What They're Saying
Jeff Legwold at The Denver Post argues that the Broncos need to stick with Tebow from here on out. They aren’t going anywhere but up anyway.
"“It's time to just play. The Broncos have only one playoff victory in the past 12 seasons. They haven't even been to the playoffs since the 2005 season. They were 4-12 last year.
"This isn't one of the NFL's elite teams trying to recover from a small stumble. This is a franchise that is far closer to the league's bottom than to the league's top. It's time for everybody, from the top down, to just dig in and play the hand they have.”
"
Vittorio Tafur of the San Francisco Chronicle notes that besides Palmer’s rapport with Houshmandzadeh, the team signed him for his ability to catch in traffic.
""He's a guy that made a lot of catches when it was sticky," coach Hue Jackson said Monday before Houshmandzadeh signed. "With people draped all over him, he made some uncommon plays for us in Cincinnati."

Broncos Player to Watch: Tim Tebow
Tebow has so much to play for and so many people to impress. Can he do it against one of the softer defenses in the NFL?
His NFL career has been nothing but drama and controversy because of his first-round draft status and he needs to prove he is not a bust sooner than later.
Raiders Player to Watch: Carson Palmer
Palmer probably was sitting on his couch on Sunday’s and all of the sudden was thrust into a game after Kyle Boller failed.
Will he perform up to his former Pro Bowl level with the Raiders this season and guide them to the playoffs?
Key Matchup: Raiders Secondary vs. Broncos Passing Attack.
The Raiders are giving up the tenth most points to opposing QBs this season (in fantasy terms) and are relatively weak at the corner and safety position.
Will Tebow find his touch and be able to throw on them if the Raiders design their defense around him beating them with the pass?
We will find out on Sunday.
