Wisconsin vs. Ohio State: Badgers' BCS Hopes Take Major Hit After Hail Mary
One week after losing to Michigan State on a last-second Hail Mary pass, the Wisconsin Badgers gave up another deep touchdown pass late in the game against Ohio State, sending them to their second straight loss and putting their BCS hopes in serious jeopardy.
After mounting a comeback and taking the lead with less than two minutes left in the game, the Badgers allowed a huge kickoff return, and four plays later the Buckeyes were in the end zone as freshman quarterback Braxton Miller hooked up with Devin Smith from 40 yards out.
Wisconsin is now 2.5 games behind Penn State in the Leaders Division with four games left. They would have to win out, including a home win over the Nittany Lions in the season finale, to have any chance of making a mad dash to a BCS bowl game.
Badgers wideout Nick Toon was held in check for most of the evening, and his lack of production was one of the major reasons Wisconsin's offense couldn't generate any momentum prior to the fourth quarter. Running back James White also struggled for Wisconsin.
A season that held so much promise just eight days ago is now on the brink of collapse and Wisconsin has no one to blame but themselves; more specifically head coach Bret Bielema and defensive coordinators Chris Ash and Charlie Partridge, who need to have the defense ready for late-game situations.
They lacked discipline each of the last two weeks and it cost them in a big way. Here is the video of Ohio State's winning touchdown pass:
