UFC 137 Results: What a Loss Would Mean for Scott Jorgensen
Former WEC standout Scott Jorgensen is looking to climb back into title contention at UFC 137.
Jorgensen will face Jeff Curran, a 14-year veteran who has fought in multiple organizations, including WEC and Strikeforce. The two bantamweights are set to make an appearance on the main card, which could only mean a positive thing for the bantamweight division in general.
Jorgensen made quite a name for himself in the WEC; he was essentially the last man to challenge for the bantamweight title before the company merged with the UFC. Since then, the NCAA D1 wrestler impressed fans with a knockout victory in his UFC debut against Ken Stone earlier this year.
Jorgensen will look to continue his ascension among the bantamweight division, but there isn't much competition outside of the champion, Cruz.
Therefore, Jorgensen's future looks uncertain should he end up losing to Curran.
The tight, technical and dynamic striking of Jorgensen, combined with his outstanding wrestling ability, make him a competitive fight for almost everyone in the division. But for Jorgensen's sake, it wouldn't be an easy sell to try and convince fans that he poses any sort of challenge to Cruz, especially after just recently dropping a decision to him.
The only other option for the 34-year-old would be to move up to another weight class to add some more credible wins to his resume, plus his presence would add more talent to the shallow 145-pound division.
While Jorgensen utilizes a combination of skills that place him into title contention, challenging for the title and winning it are two completely different things. His bout against Curran should determine his future at 135 pounds.
