Michigan State vs. Nebraska: 5 Halftime Adjustments for the Huskers
Nebraska and Michigan State meet as conference rivals for the first time today with Legends Division supremacy on the line. So far, this game has been a defensive slugfest. It seems like whichever team can find their stride on offense in the second half will walk out of Memorial Stadium with the W and an inside track to the inaugural Big Ten Championship Game. Here are five adjustments the Huskers need to make in the second half to lock up the win:
Something Through the Air
So far, the Huskers’ passing game has been non-existent. Literally. With seven minutes left in the half, Taylor Martinez had recorded zero yards through the air. If the Huskers are going to pull this one out, they are going to need to add a dimension to the offense. At the very least, they need to run some screens to stretch the Spartans’ D sideline to sideline.
Manage That Game, Taylor
As always, Taylor Martinez has to make better decisions. If the Huskers' offense can control the ball and keep it boring in the second half, they should be able to lock up the W. No more deep balls into double coverage, please.
Secondary
Kirk Cousins and Michigan State have been attacking the Huskers’ secondary with the deep ball all game. So far, the Blackshirts have been up to the challenge. They will have to keep it up in the second half if they want to hold on to win this one.
Get the Crowd Involved
The Memorial Stadium faithful have been way too quite today. The Huskers (defense, I'm looking at you) need to create a big play in the second half and reclaim their home-crowd advantage.
