NFL Week 8: Miami WR Brandon Marshall Tweets Dolphins over Giants

Pete SchauerOct 28, 2011

Miami Dolphins wide receiver Brandon Marshall is at it again, letting his Twitter do the talking instead of his on-field performance.

On Thursday, Marshall tweeted, "To: Media When we win Sunday please don't say the Giants didn't take us serious."

Notice that Marshall used the word "when" and not "if."

This isn't the first time that Marshall has used Twitter to release controversial comments about an upcoming game. Tweeting about a Week 6 Monday night matchup against the division rival New York Jets, Marshall stated he was going to fight Bart Scott or Antonio Cromartie, and that he would be booted by the second quarter.

While Marshall did haul in six receptions for 109 yards in that Oct. 17 game against New York, he failed to score a touchdown, had a couple of key drops, and most of all, failed to back up his Twitter statement. He actually looked pretty soft out there (I was at the game and saw that Marshall wasn't even chippy and didn't make much of an attempt to back up his tweet).

Heading to MetLife Stadium as a Giants fan and support system for a Dolphins fan, I was excited that, at the least, I would see Marshall put on a show. That did not happen.

I should have known Marshall wouldn't live up to his word, as his performance has diminished. He may rank No. 12 in receiving yardage this season, but his one touchdown and reception-to-target ratio puts him near the bottom of the barrel. In the matchup against the Jets, Marshall was targeted 13 times, but caught only six.

Sure, a lot of the blame can fall on the inconsistency of Miami's quarterback situation, but the rest can fall upon Marshall. The fact of the matter is he shouldn't be running his mouth when he plays for an offense that couldn't score a touchdown against a Jets defense that surrenders on average over three touchdown's worth of points a game (21.7).

Don't be surprised to see Marshall go for over 100 yards receiving this weekend against the Giants. Hey, he may even shock everyone and make it to the end zone.

But don't expect Marshall's tweet to hold true. The Dolphins will lose this game, and Marshall will be 0-for-2 on his Twitter predictions.
