Fantasy Football Week 8: Torrey Smith, Damian Williams and More WR Sleepers

Tim KeeneyOct 28, 2011

Here's a look at three Week 8 sleepers that will help cure your bye-week blues at the wide receiver position.

Torrey Smith, Baltimore Ravens

Even during last week's stinker against the Jacksonville Jaguars, quarterback Joe Flacco took a bunch of deep shots to Smith.

He was usually well-covered and, as a result, didn't come down with any of them, but he still came remarkably close. Lots of the credit there goes to the Jags. It wasn't necessarily Smith's fault.

Expect the rookie from Maryland to come down with a few of those deep receptions against a beatable Arizona secondary.

Joe Flacco might just be the most inconsistent quarterback in the league, but he always seems to have big games after atrocious ones. I guess in that sense he's consistent. Look at that.

Smith is flex-worthy in all leagues this weekend.

Damian Williams, Tennessee Titans

Someone has to have a big game against this porous Indianapolis Colts pass defense. Right?

Lets see, Nate Washington hasn't impressed as the No. 1. Eight catches and no touchdowns in three games since taking over for Kenny Britty aren't exactly press-stopping numbers.

Jared Cook has been viable, but he's not getting a ton of targts.

Lavelle Hawkins is a decent deep-league sleeper, as he got seven targets last game. But still, he didn't do much with them (three catches, 24 yards).

Williams, with four targets, was leading the Titans again last week before suffering an injury early in the second quarter. He only pulled in one of those targets, but no one in that passing game was able to get going.

The second-year receiver out of USC has practiced fully this week and appears ready to get another start. When healthy, he's looked to be Matt Hasselbeck's favorite target, especially in the red zone.

This is a matchup you want to exploit in any way you can, and Williams is a sneaky way to do that.

Anthony Armstrong, Washington Redskins

With the injury bug biting the Redskins hard this past week, Armstrong suddenly finds himself as a starter.

Besides Jabar Gaffney and Fred Davis, there's no longer a whole lot of options to catch passes for this team, so expect Armstrong to get a bunch of looks.

Still, though, he has John Beck throwing him the ball, so you might want to temper your expectations.

Armstrong showed last year that he has the skills to get behind the defense, as he averaged just under 20 yards per catch.

He's incredibly hit or miss, but in deeper leagues, he's worth a look at against a Buffalo defense that is third-worst in terms of defensive passing yards per attempt (7.6).
