College Football Predictions: Oklahoma State Will Play for National Championship
The Oklahoma State Cowboys will be playing for a national championship this year.
Mike Gundy’s squad has overcome all challenges they have faced thus far, and will continue to dominate up until—and through—their Dec. 3 matchup against Oklahoma.
The Pokes have already knocked off ranked Texas A&M and Texas teams, as well as have overcome a tough Missouri team that wouldn’t quit.
Along the way, they have compiled enough yards and points to be No. 2 in the nation in passing yards and scoring offense.
Their ground game isn’t too bad either, as the threat of the big play allows their running backs to rush for 161.1 yards per game.
The Pokes defense is ‘suspect,’ giving up around 26.9 points per game—but they always seem to come up with big turnovers and stops when they mean the most.
They caught their biggest break when the Texas Tech Red Raiders exposed their biggest rival, the Oklahoma Sooners, last week, and gave the Sooners their first loss.
The Sooners were ranked ahead of the Pokes, and it was generally thought that the two teams would meet in that Dec. 3 game to decide who will go to the BCS National Championship game.
This game still has a ton of championship implications, but it now looks like the main storyline will be if the Sooners can play spoiler to Oklahoma State’s first chance to claim a title in school history.
Should Oklahoma State run the table up until that game, I can’t see them losing.
Their offense is better than the Red Raiders', and offense is what was key to Tech's victory last Saturday.
They also have a better defense than Texas Tech, and will be able to force the Sooners into more turnovers and field goals.
Oklahoma State is looking like one of the best teams in the nation, and they will get a chance to prove it in January when they play in the biggest BCS bowl of them all.
