Maryland Football Uniforms: Latest Uniforms Fail to Reach Lofty Expectations
You’ve gone too far, Under Armour.
After providing the University of Maryland with some of the best jerseys of the season, they really dropped the ball on the latest uniforms that will be worn this weekend against Boston College. It’s boring compared to the look against Miami, doesn’t have the flair of the past weeks and has way too much red in it.
Head coach Randy Edsall tweeted that it was the captain’s decision to have this specific combination. In a related note, the team is 2-5.
The jersey’s are mostly black, with a shell-like lettering for the red numbers. The red stripes on the side don’t do a whole lot for me and neither does the random yellow line that stretches across the shoulders.
The reds pants are what make it absolutely hideous. I think if the pants were black that would be a killer combo, but the red just isn’t doing it for me. Sure, that would inch them closer to the sleek all-black uniforms Oregon wore early in the season, but they are on the cutting edge of uniforms for a reason.
The one cool part about the look is that the Maryland state flag—which has been in seemingly every design—goes across the top of the helmet. Yet it looks completely out of place with the bright red pants.
Regardless of how they look in their jerseys, hopefully the captains are going to be fully prepared for ACC doormat Boston College. The Terps are an incredibly disappointing 2-5, and the road to try and salvage the season begins this week against a one-win team.
Hopefully the ugly unis aren’t a bad sign of things to come or we won’t get a chance to see what sort of design Under Armour has up it’s sleeve for a bowl game.
