Dallas Cowboys: 5 Players That Could Make the Pro Bowl
Pro Bowl voting has officially begun. With that comes the question of which Dallas Cowboys will be representing the star in this year's Pro Bowl.
There are several candidates that are off to a great 2011 season, including some surprising breakout players.
'Boys fans would love to see five members of their favorite team named to the NFC roster, and here are five candidates likely to make the cut.
Jason Witten
1 of 5Traveling down to Hawaii is nothing new for Jason Witten. In fact, the Dallas tight end has been a Pro Bowl selection every year since his second season in the NFL.
The reason behind the seven All-Star selections for the Tennessee alum is due to the fact there's been few players as consistently great at their position.
Since 2004, Witten has reached or flirted with the 1,000 yards receiving mark every season, which is what any head coach wants from his tight end. Currently, Witten is 50 yards away from being halfway to the 1,000 yard mark once again.
If the Knocksville born tight end continues on his current pace, he'd finish 2011 with over 80 receptions and over 1,000 yards, which most receivers would call a fine season.
DeMarcus Ware
2 of 5There's a reason the Madden NFL '12 announcers define DeMarcus Ware as "consistently excellent." Ware is no stranger to the Pro Bowl festivities either, with five to his name.
The 2010 sack leader is already halfway to meeting his 15.5 mark set last season, with eight sacks through just six games in Rob Ryan's 3-4 scheme.
Ryan does deserve some credit for D-Ware's success, considering No. 94 has been able to move around and line up on both the left and right side of the ball, which has been a headache for opposing offenses.
It really seems that the new defensive coordinator in Dallas knows how to use his most dangerous threat, and it looks as if this combination will land Ware his sixth Pro Bowl selection.
Sean Lee
3 of 5One of the greatest surprises to arise from Rob Ryan's new defense has been linebacker Sean Lee, who is starting to become a household name in the Dallas area.
In addition to his impressive 51 tackles on the year, he's also come up with three clutch interceptions. The 51 tackles already eclipse his 2010 total of 34, and his three interceptions top the two he recorded last season through 14 games.
All three of Lee's interceptions in 2011 have come when Dallas needed a big stop to shut down a key drive against the New York Jets, Washington Redskins and New England Patriots. That's what coaches hope their defensive backs can do in those kind of situations and Ryan is getting that production from his inside linebacker.
Dan Bailey
4 of 5Heading into the season, it looked as if Dallas once again had question marks at the kicker position. Then, Dan Bailey had his coming out party.
Bailey started the offseason in a head to head bout with David Buehler for the place kicker duties, but the rookie eventually beat out the veteran and hasn't looked back since.
Bailey has made 17 of his 18 field goal attempts in 2011, six of which came in the Washington Redskins' game earlier this year.
Seven of Bailey's kicks have been from 40 yards or more, so it's not like the kid has just been kicking chip shots.
Cowboys' fans hope they have finally found themselves a place kicker they can believe in, and if Bailey continues on this pace, he deserves to be the NFC's Pro Bowl kicker.
Tony Romo
5 of 5Through all the controversy, all the criticism and all the heroics, Tony Romo sits with the tenth best stat line at his position so far in 2011.
Although he only has 10 passing touchdowns on the year, he has 1,756 passing yards, passing for 300+ yards in all but two of Dallas' games so far.
Romo does have those six pesky interceptions, but that's still less than Tom Brady, Drew Brees and Michael Vick.
The Cowboys' quarterback has thrown for 3,000 or more yards in three of his past four full NFL seasons, and with as many yards as he already has, it looks like he'll be making it four of the past five full seasons.
Romo still has the potential to finish the season with 20+ touchdowns. Pair that with a 4,000 yard passing performance and a playoff berth for his football team and it sounds like a Pro Bowl season to me.
