Brock Lesnar: 15 Wrestlers He Should Face in His Final WWE Match
When the upcoming WWE '12 video game announced that Brock Lesnar would be involved in the game, speculation ran rampant. Lesnar dialed back some rumors by saying that the contract with WWE allowed the company to use his likeness for promotions, such as the video game.
At this juncture, there are no plans of a Brock Lesnar comeback anytime soon. This didn't prevent Lesnar from saying that he would be interested in one more match with the company he began his mainstream success with.
Lesnar spent six years in pro wrestling, starting out with WWE in 2000. Lesnar would train until his debut, the night after WrestleMania X8 in 2002. Lesnar's career with WWE would end after his last match against Goldberg at WrestleMania XX in 2004. In just his two years on the roster, Lesnar was a three-time WWE Champion, becoming the youngest WWE Champion in history at just 25 years old. Lesnar was also a winner of the Royal Rumble match and the King of the Ring tournament, accomplishing a lot in such a small amount of time.
Lesnar left to try his hand in the NFL, followed by a stint of wrestling in Japan. Currently, he is in UFC and is a former World Heavyweight Champion in mixed martial arts. Issues with diverticulitis have sidelined him for a good chunk of his UFC career. This beating on his body, coupled with the real-life injuries of MMA, spurned on reports of Lesnar returning to pro wrestling, where the staged combat might be better for the 34-year-old Lesnar.
If Lesnar is able to ever wrestle again in WWE, his opponent would surely have to be a big one. There won't be any calls for a Lesnar/Evan Bourne match, realistically, which isn't a shot to Bourne. If Lesnar is here for one more match to leave on good terms, his opponent needs to be special. Here are 15 suggestions.
John Cena
1 of 15Why not start with the face of the company, John Cena?
Cena and Lesnar have faced each other before. Lesnar was the WWE Champion for a second time after winning the belt at WrestleMania XIX, while Cena was a cocky kid with a rapper gimmick and was turning face.
Lesnar was coming off of a concussion at WrestleMania, so the only build-up between the two was mostly words and no action. Cena has certainly improved himself in the years since, so a matchup between these two eight years later would be incredible.
The Undertaker
2 of 15I would absolutely love this match. Not only is there a history between them in WWE, but the two have shared a heated moment in real life as well.
The Deadman and The Next Big Thing had their wars inside the ring, but it is their staredown in person outside the ring that is most intriguing here. The Undertaker confronted Lesnar at UFC 121 after the two crossed paths. The Undertaker was doing an interview, expressing how shocked he was that Brock lost his match. The Undertaker looked preoccupied during the interview, as he was likely staring down Lesnar. The Undertaker was heard saying, "You want to go?" as Lesnar looked at him before walking away.
This would be one of the closest things to a legitimate MMA fight in pro wrestling. Lesnar is an MMA champion, while The Undertaker adapted much of his offense from the sport. If The Undertaker needs a WrestleMania opponent and has a good enough body to do the match, an MMA feel between these two would be amazing.
CM Punk
3 of 15These two have never faced one another, but their match would surely speak for something.
CM Punk is a wrestling business kind of guy, while Brock Lesnar is a Brock Lesnar kind of guy. Both men are Paul Heyman guys, so they naturally must settle in the ring. Their offense would compliment each other well, and a match would finally decide who is truly the best in the world.
Randy Orton
4 of 15We never saw this matchup, but could you imagine it? The match that these two could put on is something to get any fan excited. Their storyline could be centered around all of Orton's success and how Lesnar could have been in the same breath had he stuck around for a few more years. I also find it ironic that Orton has the cover of the video game where Lesnar returns, which started this entire thing.
Big Show
5 of 15Assuming that Lesnar's match won't put him in such a chance for injury, Big Show would be a good opponent. These two had fantastic moments, including breaking a ring in one match on Smackdown.
Big Show can get anyone over at this point in his career, and Lesnar wants that desired closure to his WWE career. Lesnar can go back to his most memorable feud with anyone not named Kurt Angle.
Mark Henry
6 of 15Lesnar had manhandled Henry before, but this is not the Mark Henry we saw a few years ago. This is a very mean and focused Mark Henry.
A Lesnar/Henry rematch years later could be interesting as Henry could add an MMA fighter to his Hall of Pain.
Meanwhile, Lesnar could take the World's Strongest Man down, which many people aren't so capable of doing.
Sheamus
7 of 15Consider this a changing of the guard. Lesnar and Sheamus started their WWE careers very similarly. They both started strong and dominant before becoming world champions early on. The two very strong superstars could have one heck of a match. Just imagine Sheamus countering the F-5 into the Brogue Kick or vice versa. I would buy a pay-per-view on this match alone.
The Miz
8 of 15The Miz was coming into the WWE with Tough Enough when Brock Lesnar left in 2004. Few believed in the reality TV star, but he has kept proving naysayers wrong with his incredible ability.
With this match, you get two former world champions in their early 30s that have never faced one another. If The Miz wants to be a top guy in this generation that fans will look back and recognize, beating a guy like Lesnar would do him some good. It would also help Miz stay away from the world title picture, which the WWE seems to be trying very hard to do.
Wade Barrett
9 of 15I love the idea of this match. Barrett is a bare-knuckled fighter from England, while Lesnar is a mixed martial artist and a world champion.
This would be a straight brawl and could even turn into an England vs. USA feud. Barrett needs a feud that would make him relevant once again, and Lesnar does no favors if he can beat an up-and-comer. Lesnar could help elevate Wade Barrett again.
Chris Jericho
10 of 15This looks very unlikely because both men would have to agree to return. However, both men could put on a nice match if need be.
Lesnar and Jericho likely won't both come back, but if they did, this would be a fun match to see. It would give fans a chance to see these two take one another on without the chance of burying a regular member of the roster. These two can beat each other up and it won't matter who wins, while either man's return runs the risk of ruining the momentum of a regular superstar in order to get one of these guys a win.
Alberto Del Rio
11 of 15Del Rio's booking since becoming WWE Champion has been hot and cold. If Lesnar comes back while John Cena's feud with The Rock is still brewing, Lesnar could be a stopgap and face Del Rio for the WWE title, assuming that the title is still around Del Rio's waist.
Beating an established name like Lesnar would do more to his build as a heel than anything he has done thus far with John Cena.
Christian
12 of 15Christian was around when Lesnar was with WWE, but the two didn't cross paths. This was around the time that Christian was becoming the guy who was all about his peeps. Christian is now a world champion and has turned into a whiny superstar. He will likely complain about something before Lesnar's shocking return. Here comes the pain, Christian.
Cody Rhodes
13 of 15You can actually feel the stock of Cody Rhodes rise. Rhodes now has the gimmick and the Intercontinental Championship. Now he faces Randy Orton at Vengeance as Cody tries to take the reins over as one of the top guys on Smackdown.
Rhodes' build reminds me somewhat of Orton's Legend Killer storyline, meaning that Rhodes could use some legends to take out to build his own reputation. Lesnar could be one of those guys, and a victory for Rhodes could lead to world title considerations for Cody.
Rey Mysterio
14 of 15Mysterio has a lot of injuries, but this match is certainly one that hasn't happened yet. Mysterio's only interactions with Lesnar include him helping Lesnar in his feud with Big Show. It would play into Mysterio's little underdog shtick and would give Lesnar a big name to face in his last match.
The only problem is that Mysterio would likely win, despite not being the athlete he was seven years ago, and Lesnar's loss will not help get Mysterio over since he already is.
Jack Swagger
15 of 15This one is intriguing. Lesnar's best feud was with Kurt Angle, who is not with WWE anymore. If you want to ignite that type of spark again, as well as get a young talent over, look no further than Jack Swagger.
Swagger has been mocked for being too much like Kurt Angle, ankle lock and all. If Swagger faces Lesnar and takes him out, the laughter would cease. Swagger may have done something that Angle already did, but it would put Swagger back into world title hunts and not make him a fluke champion like he was before.
