Boston Red Sox Players Denial of Drinking in Dugout Doesn't Excuse Their Actions
When the story broke a few days ago that Boston Rex Sox pitchers admitted to drinking beer in the clubhouse during games it sparked a wild fire in the organization.
Jon Lester, Josh Beckett and John Lackey were the three pitchers in question.
Immediately, there were accusations that this abuse was the result of the September collapse by the ballclub.

Each pitcher explained that this was not a new occurrence, and that the activity had been happening all year, even when they were winning.
Now, that was just a new spark for new questions.
Why is such behavior being allowed in Boston?
Maybe the alcohol itself wasn't the result of poor play, but it shows the mindset and attitude of the players on the roster.
Then, there were suddenly accusations that the pitchers in question had also been drinking in the dugout.
Today, the Boston Red Sox released a press release with comments from each of the pitchers along with manager Terry Francona and the president of the organization.
In the release, all denied that these allegations of drinking in the dugout were true.
Frankly, if I were in charge of the organization or even a fan of the team it wouldn't matter either way.
It doesn't excuse the fact that the actions occurred in the clubhouse while games were in progress.
That's like excusing a person for assault because they didn't murder the individual.
Obviously that's a little dramatic, but you get the point.
Either way, these actions cannot go unnoticed.
