BCS Standings 2011: Nebraska and Teams Who Don't Belong in Top 15
This may blow some of your minds, but the BCS isn't perfect. Deserving teams have been pushed out of the top 15 in the initial BCS rankings to make room for a few lack luster teams who have even the computers fooled.
Here are three forgettable teams who are just wasting space in the top 15.
Nebraska
Nebraska's got a great following. Unfortunately, Taylor Martinez's shaky quarterback play puts the Huskers at risk. A lot of Martinez sympathizers are quick to point to his decent numbers against Ohio State in the epic comeback victory the Huskers put forth, but his four games with a 50 percent completion rate or less seem more telling of how he will fair on a regular basis.
His inadequacies make seemingly easy games trap games, not that Nebraska isn't accustomed to losing to opponents they should roll. Now with Jared Crick down, they've got serious question marks on both sides of the ball. Michigan State, Penn State and Michigan are all games they could easily lose. The Dr. Jeckyll and Mr. Hyde act Nebraska is playing is going to make for a disappointing season for the Huskers.
Virginia Tech
Virginia Tech has only one loss on the season, and that came at the hands of the undefeated Clemson Tigers. Even so, none of their six wins came against anyone worth mentioning. They've taken on a cupcake ACC schedule, but with Georgia Tech and Quinton Coples' North Carolina ahead, their road is going to get a lot more rocky.
One victory over the "U" is a sorry excuse for a signature win and it's hard to view them as being better than some two-loss SEC and Big 12 teams when they haven't done anything to justify their top-15 ranking.
South Carolina
South Carolina wouldn't even be considered for this list, but they aren't the same team without Marcus Lattimore. Stephen Garcia's dismissal isn't nearly as crippling as the loss of their superstar running back.
Lattimore is out for the season and with Arkansas, Florida and Clemson coming up on their schedule, they face an uphill battle in overcoming the tough SEC opponents that lie ahead. It's a disappointing injury that will ultimately force the Gamecocks to skid.
