TNA Bound for Glory Preview: 5 Things I'd Like to See Happen This Sunday

Darryn SimmonsOct 13, 2011

TNA Wrestling has a stacked card for Bound of Glory on Sunday. There are matches that, if given an opportunity, could make for a great pay-per-view.

Key word in that sentence is "if."

Here are five things that I think could make Bound for Glory live up to it's title as the biggest PPV of the year for TNA.

1. Bobby Roode and Kurt Angle Get the Chance for a Clean Entertaining Match

1 of 6

Sunday is the biggest night of Bobby Roode's career.

This has been said several times over, but there's a reason for that—because it's true.

One hopes Roode comes out on top and starts his first reign as TNA World Heavyweight champion. However, he could shine in a valiant effort that comes up just short against Kurt Angle.

Win, lose or draw, for Roode to come out of this the way he should, the match must have one factor—it must be free of interference.

These two guys could go an hour and have a great match. They need to go at least 30 minutes.

This should be the beginning of a great feud between the two, but their first match has to leave the fans wanting more.

2. The Hulk Hogan vs. Sting Takes a Page from Starrcade 1997

2 of 6

Everyone remembers the Sting vs. Hulk Hogan match from Starrcade 1997. It was a year in the making as Sting came back from that year-long layoff to beat Hogan for the world title.

However, it's another match from that show that this Sunday's match would benefit from taking something from—the match between Eric Bischoff and Larry Zbyszko.

That match was for control of WCW Monday Nitro, similar to how Hogan vs. Sting will be for control of TNA.

WCW added a nice touch at that show by having wrestlers who were not working the show, like Rey Mysterio and Alex Wright, sit in the stands watching the match.

The commentators put over that the match between Bischoff and Zbyszko was so important that all the wrestlers were there to see the outcome.

The same needs to be the case for Sting and Hogan.

Having the wrestlers sit and watch the fight (maybe even have the match go near the crowd and show them cheering with the fans) will help bring home the importance of the match.

3. Samoa Joe Comes out Looking Like a Monster.

3 of 6

Yeah, I know you've heard it before, but Samoa Joe needs to be the monster heel that has always been successful in wrestling.

*Spoiler Alert for tonight's episode of Impact*

He needs a convincing win at Bound for Glory. While the three-way is a bad setting for him to end Crimson's unbeaten streak, it's fine to beat Matt Morgan clean (maybe pointing out Morgan isn't 100 percent from his injury).

*End of spoiler*

Just like Bound for Glory should be a major event to kick off Bobby Roode's place in the main event, it needs to also be the start of Joe's return there.

4. Philly Lights a Fire Under RVD as He and Lynn Turn the Clock Back

4 of 6

Philadelphia? Tables, ladders and chairs legal? Rob Van Dam vs. Jerry Lynn?

Sunday's match has all the elements to bring back some of the matches from Van Dam and Lynn's Extreme Championship Wrestling days—but will it?

Both men have put a lot of tread on their bodies, so expecting something of the caliber of their wars over the ECW TV title may be a bit much.

However, a crowd of veteran ECW fans in Philly may bring those juices out of both men one more time.

I think you'll see the best possible match out of both guys and, hopefully, they'll get the time to do it.

5. Styles/Daniels, Aries/Kendrick or Anderson/Bully Ray Steal the Show

5 of 6

Speaking of being given time.

Three matches on the undercard that all need to be given time are A.J. Styles vs. Christopher Daniels, Austin Aries vs. Brian Kendrick and Mr. Anderson vs. Bully Ray.

Bound for Glory needs matches that will get the typical hard-to-please Philadelphia crowd going—especially if you want them still going by the time the co-main event matches come up.

We've seen time and again what Styles and Daniels can do if given time. Aries and Kendrick showed they're no slouches at No Surrender and no show in Philly is complete without a good physical brawl. And Bully Ray and Mr. Anderson should have no problem accommodating that.

With the TNA tag title match moved to the pre-show, and the Knockout title match hopefully not overstaying its welcome, there should be enough time to give these matches the time they deserve.

Conclusion

There's a lot to look forward to at Bound for Glory, and it should give fans even more to look forward to in the coming year with TNA Wrestling.
