James Toney to Rampage Jackson: "I'm Looking for Sparring Partners!"
Former UFC light heavyweight champion Quinton "Rampage" Jackson has been making waves lately after proclaiming his interest in dabbling in professional boxing when his mixed martial arts career is over.
Fortunately for Jackson, he will not have to look far to find a world champion training partner.
Former multiple-time world champion boxer and one-time UFC veteran James "Lights Out" Toney extended an invitation to Jackson to spar with him.
"This is a GSA, a Goon Service Announcement: Tell Rampage I'm looking for sparring partners," Toney said to FightHype.com.
Toney expressed his interest in having Jackson square off against him inside of a ring instead of the Octagon.
Facing Jackson in the ring may be a better idea for Toney, whose mixed martial arts debut was a fiasco for the boxing superstar. Taking on UFC Hall of Famer Randy Couture at UFC 118, Toney was immediately taken down and submitted with an arm-triangle choke in the first round.
Jackson and Toney have exchanged verbal jabs in the past, stemming from Jackson's 2010 comments on Inside MMA calling out the former boxing champion.
Toney is in talks to face MMA legend Ken Shamrock in a modified rules bout targeted for November. The bout would feature eight three-minute rounds with a special 30-second stand-up rule, with the referee standing up both fighters if the fight goes to the ground and no submission hold is in place.
A return to the ring is also in place for Toney, who is set to face Russian boxing prospect Denis Lebedev in a cruiserweight match on Nov. 4 in Moscow, Russia.
