Derrick Mason: Jets Right to Trade Struggling WR to Texans for Draft Choice
The New York Jets were not about to find out if Derrick Mason was going to break out of his funk. They have traded him to the Texans in a move that benefits both sides.
Mason was used sparingly in Sunday's game against the New England Patriots. Rex Ryan made it clear that his performance on Sunday had nothing to do with comments the receiver made after the Ravens game the week before.
The New York Post reports Mason's critical comments had nothing to do with his limited showing as Ryan states that is all behind the team.

Rookie WRs Who Will Outplay Their Draft Value 📈
"I had a conversation with Derrick, and the reason he didn’t play as much had absolutely nothing to do with a conversation [he had with the media]. You guys know I have an open policy with the media. I don’t put a muzzle on anybody.
"
It seems that his emotions may have at least something to do with it as Mason is now headed to Houston. John McClain tweeted Tuesday night that the Mason era in New York had come to an end.
It's clear that the Jets are in shambles at the moment. It helps getting Nick Mangold back. The center will no doubt help the offense get back on track.
What they don't need is a player to moan about play-calling and touches every week. Rex Ryan may encourage an outspoken nature at the club, but not at the behest of team chemistry, especially when production is few and far between.
It's clear that a new start is exactly what Mason needs as this time. The Texans are uncertain when they will get star receiver Andre Johnson back, making Mason a much needed weapon at the moment.
At least for a few weeks, Mason will find the touches as the Texans try to get through life without Johnson.
There is also the certainty that Mason will play with a chip on his shoulder as he tries to prove that trading him was the worst move the Jets could have made.
I would expect nothing less than Mason on his best behavior in Houston. This is truly a move that benefits both teams.
