College Football Rankings: Baylor vs. Texas A&M and 5 Games to Bust Up Rankings

Wes ODonnellOct 11, 2011

"Whoa, Nellie!"

Big time conference matchups are here and the college football rankings are set to have a few new faces in new places.

This week features four matchups between ranked teams and all of them are in-conference rivalries.

These four games, plus one more, are certain to change the landscape of college football heading into next week.

No. 20 Baylor at No. 21 Texas A&M

The Texas A&M Aggies are the middle of a two-game losing streak and the Baylor Bears are still trying to prove they belong.

Both have outside shots at winning the Big 12 this season, but it wont happen without help.

Still, they could each make a run at a BCS bowl if they finish out the season strong.

The loser of this Texas showdown will be in trouble though.

No. 11 Michigan at No. 23 Michigan State

Michigan is undefeated but still sits outside the top 10. They've beaten everyone on their schedule except Notre Dame rather handily and this will be their first true road test of the season.

The Spartans have gotten back on track after their ugly loss to the Irish and would love nothing more than to hand the Wolverines' their first loss.

Michigan left the Big House for the first time last week when they played Northwestern. The Wolverines won the game 43-24, but a trip to East Lansing may not be as successful.

Expect this one to come down to the wire and the winner to gain some respect from the rest of the nation.

No. 15 South Carolina at Mississippi State

Mississippi State has had no luck this season. They opened the year ranked, had to play Auburn and LSU in back-to-back weeks and things have not been the same since.

Now they welcome the South Carolina Gamecocks into Starkville with a young, inexperienced signal caller.

Coach Steve Spurrier finally ended his tumultuous relationship with Stephen Garcia when Connor Shaw started against the Kentucky Wildcats.

The Gamecocks have three straight road games against SEC opponents on tap and this is not even the most difficult of the bunch.

Do not be shocked if the Bulldogs pull the upset.

No. 6 Oklahoma State at No. 22 Texas

The Pokes have been a bit of an afterthought in the BCS National Championship picture, but no team has a better shot of making a surprise appearance than them. They already knocked off Texas A&M and they wont see the Oklahoma Sooners until the season finale.

There is no Big 12 Championship Game this year, but we can consider that season-ending brawl as the likeliest scenario for either of these two teams to lose.

The Sooners spanked the Longhorns last week in the Red River Shootout, and we should expect much of the same from the Pokes.

Texas will be a program to reckon with, but they're still a year away.

No. 18 Arizona State at No. 9 Oregon

The Sun Devils' only loss of the season has been against surprisingly strong Illinois.

They are the favorites to win the Pac-12 South even if they lose this game to Oregon in Eugene.

The Ducks will have a test on their hands, but will ultimately be too much for the Sun Devils to handle. A loss to the Ducks should not knock the Sun Devils too far down the rankings, but an upset will derail any hope Oregon has at making a move back into BCS bowl contention.

Unlike Arizona State, Oregon still has to play Stanford and USC.
