Week 6 Waiver Wire Pickups: Doug Baldwin and 3 WRs Ready to Enter Beast Mode

Adam WellsOct 10, 2011

Now that we have seen most teams play five games, we have a good read on who the best fantasy players on each team will be.

Some of them are not surprising—Tom Brady, Aaron Rodgers, Adrian Peterson—while others have come out of nowhere—Victor Cruz, really?

There is no time to rest, though. You have to make sure that you are scouring the waiver wire looking for those midseason bloomers who have taken the fantasy world by storm.

One position that is flush with surprising talent is wide receiver. I already mentioned Cruz, but he is hardly the only stud to emerge in the first quarter of the season.

Here are three players who have made themselves into fantasy stars already and look like they will keep the momentum going all season long.

Doug Baldwin Seattle

Seattle has been getting picked on all season, but Pete Carroll has this team playing well. One of the biggest surprises has been the play of Doug Baldwin.

He has three games this season with at least 80 yards receiving, and he has 13 catches for 220 yards in the last two weeks.

Tarvaris Jackson is not as bad as we thought he was going to be, so Baldwin's production is not likely to fall off anytime soon.

Who would have thought that the fantasy receiver on the Seahawks worth owning would be Doug Baldwin over Sidney Rice?

Titus Young, Detroit

I have made no secret of my affinity for Titus Young. He is just a rookie, but he gets better every time you watch him play.

The Lions have one of the best offenses in the NFL—which we will all be able to see on Monday Night Football—and Young is going to start being a big part of what this team wants to do.

As great as Calvin Johnson is, he is going to need help from someone else on the outside. Young has the tools to be a No. 2 receiver right now.

He has three great matchups against weak pass coverage coming up, with San Francisco, Atlanta and Denver before the bye in Week 9.

Laurent Robinson, Dallas

One of the benefits of losing your star wide receiver is you get to see what lesser-known players can do.

Laurent Robinson had a great game against Detroit—seven catches for 116 yards—and he has a really good matchup in Week 6 against New England.

Miles Austin is expected to be back this week, so Robinson's time on the field could be limited. But the Patriots have a bad secondary, so the Cowboys could open things up to exploit that weakness.
