NFL Picks Week 5: New England Patriots and 4 Teams Guaranteed to Dominate

John RozumOct 4, 2011

So far this NFL season there hasn't been too many blowout games in comparison to recent history.

However, that doesn't mean lopsided contests aren't going to happen, the only question is who and when.

As for Week 5, there's certainly some matchups that could turnout that way, so here's four one-sided games dominated by the expected superior team.

New England Patriots (vs. New York Jets)

The third straight road game for the New York Jets, they were ousted by the Oakland Raiders in Week 3, and then their offense was hammered by the Baltimore Ravens.

And it doesn't get any easier in Week 5, as the Jets travel to AFC East rival New England to play the Pats'.

QB Tom Brady got somewhat back to normal with a two TD and 226 yard performance in Oakland, and you can guarantee they'll be prepared for New York.

The Jets may have the No. 2 pass defense, but their rush defense is ranked No. 27.

Brady and the Pats' offense starts off slow, but the defense has been improving and they will dominate Mark Sanchez and the weak Jets' offense.

Patriots win convincingly, 35-16

Detroit Lions (vs. Chicago Bears)

We all knew the Detroit Lions were going to be a great team this season, but with three of their first four games being on the road, it was reasonable to think they'd start off around 2-2- or 3-1, but 4-0?

Well, that just goes to show exactly how much The Motor City has improved, and with the 2-2 Chicago Bears coming to town in Week 5, Monday Night Football just got a whole lot more intense.

That being said however, the Lions' offense is far better than The Monsters of the Midway, because the Bears' D ranks No. 23 and No. 20 in average rush and pass yards allowed, respectively.

As for Detroit, their defense has significantly improved since 2010 and they're going to force QB Jay Cutler to beat them, which won't happen.

Lions shut-down RB Matt Forte en route to a 30-14 win.

San Diego Chargers (at Denver Broncos)

Much like in recent history, the San Diego Chargers have started off slow, but thanks to a weak early season schedule in 2011, they're 3-1.

And after last weeks abysmal performance, although expected, versus the Green Bay Packers, the Denver Broncos have an improved defense, you just wouldn't know it after Week 4.

Another issue in Denver is their offense, because even though they move the ball, turnovers are a major cause for concern.

On the flip-side in San Diego, the Bolts are improving each week despite TE Antonio Gates being out, and this is the game where the Bolts turn on the jets.

QB Philip Rivers slices the Broncos' pass defense, while Denver's offense turns the ball over regardless of who's under center.

Bolts win a solid AFC West road game since Denver's confidence was ruined last week, 38-14.

New York Giants (vs. Seattle Seahawks)

If there's one team notorious for playing bad on the road, it's the Seattle Seahawks.

They play like a completely different team at home, but on the road it's a new story, and 2011 is no exception, as the Seahawks are 0-2 on the road and have been outscored 57-17.

The New York Giants on the other hand, are rolling with confidence in the midst of a three game winning streak.

QB Eli Manning has eight TD passes to only two picks, and the defense is gradually getting better, but more importantly, they're finding multiple ways to win.

Also, Seattle has yet to start a game off great, and verse a team like New York, especially on the road, they're not going to be able to make a comeback.

Big Blue Wrecking Crew rolls again, 31-10.
