Hank Williams Jr. Songs and Fighters Who Should Walk Out to Them
Hank Williams Jr. has become synonymous with Monday Night Football over the years, but Williams Jr.'s recent comments about U.S. President Barack Obama have led ESPN to remove the country singer's introduction to the weekly broadcast.
Still, Williams Jr.'s influence on sports extends beyond football. In fact, a number of MMA fighters have used Williams Jr.'s music for their walk-out songs.
Mostly drawing the interest of fighters coming from a rural upbringing, Williams Jr.'s music allows those competitors to show off some of their personality as they make their way to the cage. With that in mind, here are a few fighters who could use or already have used Williams Jr.'s music for their entry ballad.
Family Tradition: Jim and Dan Miller
1 of 4Jim and Dan Miller make up one of the most accomplished brother duos in MMA history. You could even say that MMA is a "Family Tradition" in the Miller family.
While Nate and Nick Diaz are also successful siblings competing in the UFC, their Stockton, Calif., upbringing doesn't exactly lend itself to country walk-out music.
Country State of Mind: Roy Nelson
2 of 4Roy Nelson is a fighter who likes to have some fun with his walkout music. At UFC 130, Nelson poked fun at his own physique by walking out to Weird Al Yankovic's "Fat."
Nelson's next appearance will come at UFC 137 in October. In alignment with his nickname, "Big Country," would do well to enter the arena to this Williams Jr. tune.
I'd Love to Knock the Hell out of You: Matt Brown
3 of 4Matt Brown isn't one of the more well-known fighters in the UFC, but he has already used Williams Jr.'s "I'd Love to Knock the Hell out of You" on multiple occasions. Having picked up a majority of his wins by knockout, this edgy song fits the scrappy Brown well.
Country Boy Can Survive: Matt Hughes
4 of 4The most obvious example of an MMA fighter using Williams Jr. music as they make their way to the Octagon belongs to the entrances of former UFC welterweight champion Matt Hughes.
For quite some time, Hughes has made a goosebump-inducing entrance with "Country Boy Can Survive" playing in the background. After losing to Josh Koscheck at UFC 135, we may have seen Hughes' epic walk to the Octagon for the final time, though.
