Jets vs. Ravens: Jets Looking Nothing Like a Playoff Team

Ryan RudnanskyOct 3, 2011

New York Jets head coach Rex Ryan keeps telling us that the Jets will win the Super Bowl.

And it's starting to get old.

Once again, Ryan is blinding us to the fact that the Jets have some serious issues, and they're in danger of missing out of the playoffs, let alone win a Super Bowl.

The Jets' test against the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday ended with plenty of red marks, including four turnovers, all by quarterback Mark Sanchez. It's pretty safe to say Sanchez failed this test.

Sanchez not only threw an interception that was returned 73 yards for a touchdown, he coughed up three fumbles, two of which were returned for touchdowns.

Just when Sanchez appeared to be turning a corner this season, he does this. This is the kind of performance that can haunt a quarterback at night and give him cold sweats.

But it hasn't just been Sanchez. The running game was averaging 3.4 yards per carry headed into Week 4, and starting running back Shonn Greene did nothing to quiet concerns, rushing for 23 yards on 10 carries against the Ravens.

This team will generally be kept in games because of the defense, but there comes a point when the offense has to start holding its own weight. The Jets' offense has actually gotten worse this season.

The reality is, even with a star receiver in Santonio Holmes and a capable receiver in Plaxico Burress, Sanchez is still erratic and inconsistent. He's thrown six touchdowns this season, but he's also thrown seven interceptions. He's thrown an interception each week.

That's not how you win games.

The Jets are 2-2 and they could easily be 1-3 if Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo hadn't choked in Week 1.

It's time for Sanchez and Greene to step up, or they both should be shipped out of New York.
