Texas A&M and the 8 Worst Second-Half Teams in College Football
While we are still in the midst of Week 5 of college football, some teams are starting to separate themselves for the wrong reasons.
Granted, Texas A&M has taken falling apart to a new level, but there are other teams in the nation that are falling in line for this very same trend.
Here are a look at ten teams that are not getting the job done in the second half.
Texas A&M
1 of 8For two straight weeks now, Texas A&M has done an outstanding job in the first half against Oklahoma State and Arkansas. In those two games, the Aggies had a combined lead of 55-20.
After going to the locker room and coming back out onto the field, the Aggies saw things go horribly wrong: A 17-point lead over Oklahoma State disappeared and a 18-point lead of Arkansas vanished.
Texas A&M better get things figured out because Texas Tech, their next opponent, will have all the confidence in the world, even if they fall behind early.
Utah State
2 of 8So far this season, Utah State has lost three games, and in all three games, the Aggies held a third-quarter lead.
What makes things even worse for Utah State is the fact that these leads were blown to good teams like Auburn and BYU, which would have been program-building victories.
Notre Dame
3 of 8While Notre Dame has had other issues besides blowing second-half leads, the inability to put away teams has cost them dearly against one of their biggest rivals: Michigan.
During their second week game at Michigan, Notre Dame held a 24-7 lead entering the fourth quarter.
After 15 additional minutes of football were complete, the Wolverines put up 28 points and capped off a comeback with only two seconds remaining.
Pitt
4 of 8Despite their big win over South Florida this past Thursday night, Pitt has had their struggles holding on to second-half leads this season.
In a game against Iowa on the road, Pitt had a 24-3 lead late in the third quarter only to see it evaporate and result in a 31-27 loss.
To make things worse, Pitt held a 12-7 lead against Notre Dame at home and could not finish them off. They allowed the Irish to score a late touchdown to win 15-12.
BYU
5 of 8While BYU has certainly not made a habit of collapsing in the fourth quarter, they did have a meltdown in one of the biggest games of their season.
With a 13-3 lead against Texas, BYU was poised for a win, but could only muster three more points and ended up losing 17-16.
Toledo
6 of 8Much like Utah State, Toledo had an opportunity to earn a program-changing victory on the road against Ohio State but came up short.
While their collapse was nowhere near what happened to the Aggies, Toledo held a lead in the first and third quarters and could never put the Buckeyes away, despite multiple opportunities in the second half.
Georgia
7 of 8While Georgia has beat up on some lesser opponents, when they faced tough competition in the first two weeks of the season, the Bulldogs were not able to keep up in the second half.
In the first week of the season, Georgia never was able to catch up with Boise State. When they faced South Carolina in Week 2, Georgia held the lead in both the first and second half and yet could not finish off the Gamecocks.
Washington
8 of 8While their lack on intensity in the second half has only cost the Huskies one game, Washington is developing a trend of losing their edge down the stretch.
After jumping out to 21-0 lead over Hawaii, Washington saw things get interesting and hung on for a one- score win.
After leading all the way up until the last play of the first half against Nebraska, Washington allowed the Huskers to score the next 27 points unanswered.
