5 Players Whom the Warriors Should Seek in an Ellis Trade
I recently wrote an article about big men the Warriors should acquire and another about teams Monta Ellis would really help.
This amalgamation of the two presents fantasy scenarios for players who would help the Warriors in a potential Ellis trade.
From rebounding centers to athletic forwards to scoring swingmen, this article reveals the guys whom Larry Riley should really look to acquire because they'll help the team in one way or another.
Here they are.
Andrew Bogut
1 of 6I wrote an article about two months ago on potential trades for the Warriors, and this was one of them.
Bogut is a large defensive presence, something the Warriors have been lacking for a long time.
When a player is slashing into the lane, Biedrins and Lee don't exactly prevent him from scoring, and Bogut is a guy who loves to do the dirty work.
He sucks up missed shots on defense, and cleans up on offense. In addition, he's a terrific blocker, one of the best in the league.
Although he doesn't give the same scoring punch as Ellis would, he would be able to contribute maybe 20 points, 12 rebounds, and 2.5 blocks a game for the fast-paced Warriors.
Paul Millsap
2 of 6Similar to Bogut, Millsap would also be a strong guy to body up offensive guys on the glass.
In addition, Millsap has a pretty good mid-range game, and can vary it up with his post game. Having him alongside David Lee would really confuse defenses, and one of them would be left open.
He's not a huge guy who would block the lane, either. He's a great guy for Curry to run the pick-and-roll or pick-and-pop with, and when Steph wants to drive into the lane, he can roll right back out of there.
Utah would be willing to give this guy up because of their loaded frontcourt, including rookie Enes Kanter and sophomore Derrick Favors.
Andre Iguodala
3 of 6Iggy has been the subject of numerous trade rumors for Monta Ellis, and there's a reason.
He'd be a great fit on the wing alongside Curry and Wright, because he can do a little bit of everything.
Back in the playoff days in Philly, Iguodala was a perennial triple-double threat and would drop 20 on any given night.
He's an athletic finisher and is capable of guarding and playing three positions.
He would also bring the defensive energy that Ellis was unwilling to bring and can lock down the team's best perimeter scorer.
Tyson Chandler
4 of 6The guy's stock rose after the Finals, and a sign-and-trade with him and another guy from the Mavs, like Rudy Fernandez, for Ellis wouldn't be a bad idea.
In the Finals, he played one role: defensive stopper.
The above picture embodies his playoff performance, and he is the imposing defensive presence that the Warriors have been looking for forever.
He doesn't really score very much, which is fine, because Curry and Wright can do that. But he does defend and rebound. And that's all the Warriors need out of a center at this point.
Chandler's just the guy that the Warriors need to get back into the playoff mix.
Blake Griffin
5 of 6Just think about Blake Griffin and Stephen Curry on the same team.
They'd finish more alley-oops every game than rebounds Kevin Love gets.
Two young, athletic players together would just be too much for the league to handle.
Griffin's probably working on his jump shot during this prolonged offseason, and when he has that, he'll be downright dangerous.
Like Millsap, he'll be an excellent pick-and-roll/pop player, and would score in bunches.
In addition, the Warriors need a rebounder, and even as a rookie, he averaged around 12 a game.
Griffin's a talented scorer and rebounder, and is just the guy the Warriors wish they could acquire.
