Jaguars vs. Jets: TV Schedule, Live Streaming, Radio, Game Time and More

Alex KayJun 7, 2018

The Jacksonville Jaguars travel to New York to take on the Jets in a Week 2 matchup between two teams that pulled off surprising wins.

While it isn’t surprising that the Jets enter this week with a win, they did it in dramatic fashion against Tony Romo and the Dallas Cowboys. They had a late, fourth-quarter surge that put them over the edge and they simply played until the final whistle.

The Jets also leaned heavily on their passing attack, something that Rex Ryan has been reluctant to do in Mark Sanchez’ first two seasons. He ended up throwing 44 times for 26 completions, 335 yards and two TDs compared to one INT.

They simply could not get their running game going, as Shonn Greene and LaDainian Tomlinson combined for 15 carries for 42 yards.

The Jaguars were successful in their opening game by bottling up Chris Johnson, holding him to 24 yards on nine rush attempts and 25 yards on six receptions. They won by pounding the ball against the Titans, with Maurice Jones-Drew, Deji Karim and Montell Owens rushing 47 times for 163 yards and a TD.

Can the Jaguars repeat that performance against the Jets and force them to beat them through the air, or will the Jets get back to their power running game and overwhelming defense of previous years?

What's at Stake?

Both of these teams would like to make a playoff push this season. The Jets have gone to two straight AFC Championships and would like to make the Super Bowl for the first time in the Rex Ryan era.

If they can win the division and get a bye in the playoffs, it would greatly help their cause. Beating Jacksonville is a good way to start getting ahead or stay on pace with the rest of the division.

The Jaguars have a chance to make the playoffs in a seemingly wide-open AFC South. When they beat the Titans last week and the Texans stomped the Colts, it put them in a two-way tie for first. If they can beat the Jets, it gives them a huge advantage early in the season.

Jaguars Injury Report

DL Aaron Kampman, OUT (knee)—Having the two-time All-Pro lineman out hurts the Jaguars pass rush. He will not be back in time to pressure Sanchez.

TE Mercedes Lewis, PROB (calf)—Lewis missed the first half of the Titans game with calf strain. He is day-to-day and should be ready to go against the Jets.

Jets Injury Report

WR Santonio Holmes, PROB (illness)—Holmes received a team-high 10 targets against the Cowboys and had a decent but unspectacular outing. If he is fully healthy, look for a big game on Sunday.

WR Logan Payne, OUT (wrist)—The Jets only have four wide receivers on the depth chart with Payne expected to miss 6-8 weeks. They may not put him on the IR and wait for him to give them depth late in the season. He won’t be in this game, so don’t expect any five-wide sets with true receivers.

Fantasy: Start 'Em, Sit 'Em and Sleeper

Start 'Em: Maurice Jones-Drew. Jones-Drew was reportedly upset about only getting 24 touches in the first game. He felt he deserved more and the team may give him just that to appease their star. MJD still went for 97 yards and a TD, so he is a safe play against the Jets.

Sit 'Em: Shonn Greene. Greene struggled against the Cowboys defense and will struggle again versus the Jaguars. Jacksonville did a great job against the electric Chris Johnson, so they should have no problem containing Greene.

Sleeper: Mercedes Lewis. If he is healthy, he is going to abuse the small Jets’ safeties. I’ll predict that he is a top-five tight end in scoring this week.

What They're Saying

Vito Stellino of the Florida Times-Union is reporting that the Jaguars are very pleased with how Luke McCown performed last Sunday. He managed the game effectively and did what he needed to do to get his team a win. Coach Jack Del Rio said, “Luke did a nice job doing exactly what he was asked to do, we executed the game plan and won the game."

Ben Shpigel at the New York Times caught up with Rex Ryan after he watched tape of Sunday nights game against the Cowboys. He was apparently unimpressed with both his offense and defense and instead awarded game balls to special teams players: Nick Folk, who kicked the game-winning field goal, Joe McKnight, who blocked a crucial punt and Isaiah Trufant for scoring off of that block.

Jaguars Player to Watch: Luke McCown

McCown was able to perform admirably against a decent defense, but it will be interesting to see how he holds up against a top-notch unit like the Jets. He is the definition of a game manager, so let’s see if the Jets can bait him into making mistakes and force him to throw the game away.

Jets Player to Watch: Mark Sanchez

Sanchez was forced to throw much more on Sunday night more than he is used to. The Jaguars are going to try and make him prove that he can beat them through the air and stop the run. Let’s see if Sanchez can step up two weeks in a row.

Key Matchup: Jets’ Cornerbacks vs. Luke McCown

Darrelle Revis and Antonio Cromartie are two of the premier corners in the NFL. If McCown makes even the slightest mistake, these guys will capitalize. Look for McCown to avoid both of them and throw a lot of balls towards Mercedes Lewis.

Prediction: Jets over Jaguars, 20-13
