Liverpool FC 2011-2012 Season; 5 Bold Predicitons for the Reds Next Season
Yes, back again for more. If I wasn't deluded enough in my previous article, expect a lot more from this one.
There, with the tension very much at a high, I'll dive straight into it. The 2011/12 season is fast approaching and for one, I can't wait, not only because there has been little in the way of football since May but also because I think this could be an excellent campaign for Liverpool this season.
So without further giving away points I'll later refer to, let's get to it.
5. Liverpool Will Face a Battle for Fourth Place
1 of 6I believe Champions League football is a must this season. With the slight disappointment of losing out on European football last season, the break from it should give Liverpool the boost they need to challenge for at least fourth this season.
But of course, Liverpool will face many opponents in their attempts for Champions League football. Any of five teams could be in that battle for third and fourth from Chelsea or Manchester City, to Aston Villa and Everton.
Anyone could really.
Fortunately, Liverpool appear to have the players for it and also the squad depth to challenge the likes of Man City, Arsenal and Spurs. T
his season could be the break that we needed to get back on our feet in the league, something that has been slipping in the last few season.
And who knows? A solid third or fourth place in the league could be the start of something big.
Hopefully.
4. A Domestic Title Wouldn't Be Unrealistic
2 of 6Yeah, I picked the oldest picture I could find. But my point is still there.
Usually by the time the FA Cup third round comes around, Liverpool have had the league and Europe still in mind and have lost focus with the domestic cups.
In the past few seasons, Liverpool haven't reached past the third round of the FA Cup and have not got much further in the League Cup. I had the pleasure of watching Northampton beat them on penalties in person, and believe me, when Brad Jones is giving the crowd motivation, something is disastrously wrong.
Anyway, this could be Liverpool's season, and hopefully with an FA Cup win will give a lot of credibility back to the team, which has been lost through poor performances in cups over the last few years.
The last time Liverpool won a trophy, Harry Kewell started and Djibril Cissé scored. Yeah, exactly.
3. Liverpool Will Have a Poor Start
3 of 6They just will. They have done for the last few seasons. I know, I know I have great faith in the team that is being built at the moment. But they just will.
Just look at the run of games.
Sunderland at home. Always controversy since the beach-ball incident, and Liverpool have had it lucky the last few seasons.
Arsenal away. Always get a fluke 1-0 win or something similar.
Bolton at home. OK, win here. Stoke away. Difficult place to go to, and we'll need the angry pirate (Sotirios Kyrgiakos) in defence, and then Spurs away who seem to have Liverpool's number when it comes down to it.
Of course, all of these could equally be wins, but the team still needs time to gel at the start of the season, and by the time Liverpool do make the trip to Spurs, they'll be able to beat them.
I'm not expecting the same hopeless run that occurred under Roy Hodgson, but I'm not expecting five wins, as much as I'd love it too.
Then again, I'd love to see Lionel Messi in a Liverpool shirt, but we all know that won't happ....BREAKING NEWS!!!!!!
2. Another Injury-Ridden Season
4 of 6Again, it always happens. Right when we have our best run of form, the best players get injured, and with a team that has Daniel Agger, Steven Gerrard, Alberto Aquilani, Fabio Aurelio, the list goes on, there's bound to be some absences come the end of this year.
But its not all doom and gloom this time! Because Liverpool actually have players!!!
Shocking I know. The times have gone where Fernando Torres would limp off for four months, and David N'Gog would be the next best choice. Still shocks me that he was the only alternative through two transfer windows.
No, this time if a player gets injured, there are many suitable candidates to take their place, even bringing youth players into the first team doesn't scare the hell out of me anymore.
Fortunately, there is a good setup for players to be injured this time around. As long it doesn't affect left-backs. Oh God.
1. This Is Luis Suarez's Season
5 of 6OK, this may not be the most controversial point, but I think Suarez is going to have a fantastic season at Liverpool, and a partnership with Dirk Kuyt or Andy Carroll will suit him perfectly.
Suarez showed what he can do at the end of last season and I only expect him to get better the longer he stays in the first team.
Honestly, since his first appearance against Stoke, I thought he was going to be one of the best players Liverpool have bought for a number of years.
I think he can easily score or set up 30 goals a season and be one of the icons that Liverpool need right now.
YouTube proves my point.
Conclusion
6 of 6So there we go. Five things that could happen to Liverpool this season, although now I've predicted them, they most likely won't.
Stupid Jinx! But there we go.
