UFC 132 Fight Card: What Chris Leben Must Do to Beat Wanderlei Silva

Dale De SouzaJun 7, 2018

This is the fight everyone has been looking forward to since UFC 116.

The Crippler and The Axe Murderer...Chris Leben and Wanderlei Silva...It's finally going down tonight in Vegas at UFC 132!

It's tough to not consider this an automatic Fight of The Night candidate considering Leben's style, which is quite similar to Wanderlei''s in that he fights to create brawls and he doesn't relent until he gets his "W".

Leben has sound Jiu-Jitsu and can use it very well when he gets the shot, but he's the type of guy who will abandon his Jiu-Jitsu if the opportunity for a crazy slugfest and a highlight reel performance presents itself.

Funny we mention that because Wanderlei is the same exact type of guy, and he's made a career out of it with no signs of stopping soon.

For Leben to win against Silva tonight, does he need to resort to a strictly Jiu-Jitsu based plan?

Of course not, because Wanderlei is not going to step into the guard of Leben for fifteen minutes and let Leben hug him, and besides, Leben won't try to lure Silva in for a grappling match for fifteen minutes--not when he's wanted this fight ever since his win over Yoshihiro Akiyama.

Leben can turn any fight into a zombie-boxing slugfest if anyone gives him a chance, and while it may not be the wisest idea against Silva, the question still exists if Silva's glass chin will show.

Leben needs to drag the fight out long enough for the fight to turn into something wild and crazy, but he also needs to exhaust Silva's tank in the process.

The more tired Wanderlei is, the more susceptible he will be to Leben's offense, especially in the latter rounds of the bout when all it may take is one punch to stop the bout.

Leben has said he only needs to touch Wanderlei once to win the bout.

He has fifteen minutes to do it, and if he can't do it before the end of that third frame, we will have seen a rebirth of Wanderlei Silva.
