UFC 132 Fight Card: What Dennis Siver Must Do to Beat Matt Wiman

Dale De SouzaJul 2, 2011

Dennis Siver cemented his name as a Lightweight to watch with his shocking upset win over George Sotiropoulos at UFC 127, and he will look to capitalize on that momentum at UFC 132 tonight when he opens up the card against "Handsome" Matt Wiman.

Siver has a good ground game, but he also is knoown for being arguably one of the most dangerous strikers in the division; he's definitely the most dangerous kickboxer in the division on account of how creative he can be with his arsenal.

In Wiman, Siver is facing a man who is a "jack of all trades, master of none" type of fighter who is good in most areas but is not outstanding in any aspect.

One would argue that if Wiman can put Siver on his back, he'll be killing two birds with one stone, but in reality, that would be killing four birds with one stone.

If Wiman gets Siver to the ground, not only would he be neutralizing the kickboxing and unquestionably forcing Siver to be aggressive from his back, but when Siver is on his back, his strength and submission game go out the window.

Siver needs to make sure his takedown defense is every bit as good in this fight as it was in his fight with Sotiropoulos, and he needs to make Wiman stay on the feet with him for as long as he can.

As soon as he's got Wiman slowing down a little bit, that's when he needs to come forward and punish Wiman with leg kicks, slowing him down further and setting up his foe for his most lethal strikes--namely his spinning back kick to the body.

If he lands the spinning back kick, it'll be just like when Mirko Cro Cop landed left head kicks in his prime, because it will spell the end for Wiman, like it or not.
