WWE: 6 Ways to Know You Take Being a Wrestling Fan Too Far

TC VreelandJun 29, 2011

Welcome to the second of a three-part series that will take a look at the world of professional wrestling and its fans.

As long as there is professional wrestling around, whether it is being shown on television or just in your local VFW hall, there will be wrestling fans.

Wrestling fans come in all ages, races, sexes, backgrounds and nationalities, but they all have on thing in common—the love of the sport.

But what truly makes a wrestling fan?  What separates the die-hard fans from those who only watch the occasional Monday Night Raw?  And what sends people beyond die-hard status, into just becoming a carzy fan?

This list takes a look at six things that might mean that you have taken being a wrestling fan too far.  Some of you might notice some things on this list taht you are guilty of (I have), others might just lasugh at it's absurdity.

Nevertheless, take a look and see if you agree with me.  Let me know if there is another reason or two that you would have included and be on the lookout for part 3, that takes a look at fair-weather fans.

As always, thanks for reading.  Enjoy!

You Have a Wrestling Related Tattoo

1 of 6

No matter how much you love WWE, Hulk Hogan or any other aspect of professional wrestling, I think you'd be going a bit too far if you decided to permanently ink it on your body.

Don't get me wrong, I'm all for tattoos.  Even I have one that takes my status as a fan to a crazy level.  Part of my point stems from my feelings that you may love a piece of pop culture too much if you are willing to get it tattooed on yourself, even though I myself may fall under that category.

If the photo isn't enough to make you think that some fans are absolutely nuts, just do a google search, you'll see some crazy ink.

You Spend More on Replica Title Belts Than on Your Bills

2 of 6

Would I love to own a replica WWE belt?  Yeah.  When I see someone with a replica belt at a WWE event do I instantly think they are crazy for spending the money on it?  No.  But some fans just take it too far.

When waiting in line at a WWE event that I was at a few years ago, I overheard someone talking about his collection of replica WWE belts that he owned.  The fan stated that as well as the three belts he was wearing and carrying at the time, that he had four more at home.

He was especially proud of the"Smoking Skull" belt that was his newest acquisition even though, get this, he couldn't pay his phone bill because he decided to buy the belt instead.

When you put memorabilia ahead of your bills, it's time to stop and think a bit.

You've Been in a Physical Altercation over a Wrestling Related Situation

3 of 6

Let's face it, fights happen at sporting events.  Usually the combination of alcohol and the disappointment of a close game is enough to spark at least one small scuffle in the parking lot, but that's not really an excuse.

It helps to remember that no matter how intense the matches may be at a wrestling event, the event and the outcomes are still scripted.  So why on earth would two fans get into a fight over a pre-determined outcome?

This also goes for the fans who have attempted to fight with actual WWE superstars.  CM Punk, Chris Jericho and Randy Orton have all recently been involved in fan altercations, both inside and outside of the arenas.

Again, it's scripted.  Would you get into a fight over an episode of Law & Order?  I think not.

You Think That You Are Smarter Than Other Fans

4 of 6

If you are a pro wrestling fan, you likely have other friends who are also into pro wrestling.  If not, than any trip to a WWE, Impact Wrestling or any independent event will undoubtedly bring you close to fans who enjoy the same things.

So if you are all there to enjoy the sport you love so much, why would you go out of your way to try and prove that you are more "in-the-know" than anyone else?

It amazes me that every time that I go to a WWE event, I always hear someone talking about how they know what is going to happen in any given match.  They'll preach the words straight from the dirt sheets, sometimes verbatim, as if they were in the WWE creative room minutes before.

We get it buddy, you read online reports.  Many of us do, but it doesn't make us smarter than anyone else.

You Don't Get Along with the Fans of Your Favorite Superstar's Rival

5 of 6

Ever been to a WWE event in Boston?  I have.  And let me tell you, fan out there either love John Cena or absolutely despise him, rarely is there an in between.

With no shortage of people who are pro or anti-Cena, there's bound to be a confrontation or two (or twenty) at the event.  But at what point does the animosity towards the other superstar and his fans cross the line?

When you can't enjoy the event because you are sitting next to a John Cena fan, it's time to think about why you are in the arena in the first place.  I was supposed to sit next to a woman at an event this year, but she made the guy she was with switch seats with her because I was wearing a Nexus shirt and she didn't want to be near me.

At that point, you might as well just stay home and watch it on TV.

You Have Your Own Wrestler Name, Finisher and Entrance Theme

6 of 6

(DISCLAIMER: This doesn't apply to those who are attempting to become professional wrestlers)

I'll be the first to admit that I fail at this point.  But really, how ridiculous do you have to be to come up with your own wrestling persona?

Hopefully if you fail like me, you've only just ever thought about what you would want to walk to the ring to, or have thought of a cool finisher that no one seems to use.

Now, if you've ever tried to use your finisher on your nephew or have woken everyone in your house up by blasting your entrance theme as you walk out of the bedroom into the shower, then you may have a problem.

OK, so maybe I do have a problem.
