NBA Trade Rumors: Players from Every Team That Could Be on the Move This Summer

Chris TernateJun 27, 2011

The NBA could end up a very different league this summer.

With an impending lockout on the horizon, NBA trades may be the last thing on everybody's mind, especially if the owners and players are unable to come to an understanding come Thursday, June 30, the expiration date of the current collective bargaining agreement.

However, if headway is made, its likely that this Thursday will just be another day with another opportunity for the NBA to get itself going again.

In the meantime, that shouldn't stop teams from exploring their options, especially since the 2011 NBA Draft finished up.

Considered by many to be a weaker draft class, it didn't stop teams from making moves or shopping around current players in order to bulk up their rosters.

This resulted in some pretty interesting trade scenarios being tossed around and some pretty big names like Steve Nash and Tony Parker having their names thrown into the mix.

So while the players and owners meet later this week to discuss the future of the NBA, let us not forget just how much different the league could look as a result of trades that could occur once the dust has settled.

Resolved salary issues and newly determined salary caps could even result in transactions.

That being said, here are some players from every team across the league that could be moving this summer.

Atlanta Hawks

1 of 30

Kirk Hinrich

The recently acquired guard Kirk Hinrich was unable to play against his former team when the Chicago Bulls met the Atlanta Hawks in the playoffs.

So while unlikely, it can't really be determined whether or not Hinrich would have made the difference against the Bulls.

He does, however, make for a pretty interesting piece that the Hawks could move. His contract would be up next season, so he's desirable in that sense. However, Hinrich is more than that.

A hard-nosed player and gritty defender, Hinrich can provide teams with some offense and can either end up as a solid starter or a great sixth man off the bench.

He's an underrated asset and could very well be on the move soon.

Boston Celtics

2 of 30

Jermaine O'Neal

The Boston Celtics were left shorthanded in the paint when Shaquille O'Neal announced his retirement, shortening the rotation to Glen Davis and Jermaine O'Neal. However, now that Davis has the option of leaving Boston, its hard to see the Celtics moving their lone big man not named Kevin Garnett.

It is possible, though, especially since the Celtics were able to draft 6'10" JuJuan Johnson in this year's draft. However, they would need to try to pursue another big man in exchange, especially if they lose out on Davis. The free agent market might make itself open to them, but O'Neal is definitely an option.

He still has his size, and if he can stay healthy, he can still contribute as a solid starting center or power forward.

Charlotte Bobcats

3 of 30

Tyrus Thomas

The Charlotte Bobcats traded away Stephen Jackson and Shaun Livingston in exchange for the seventh pick, Bismack Biyombo, and Corey Maggette.

So why not move a very desirable piece in Tyrus Thomas in order to get big on a team full of smaller forwards and guards?

Thomas' athleticism makes him a good name for the Bobcats to dangle around in front of teams in exchange for a bigger presence in the paint.

If Bismack Biyombo doesn't end up becoming the defensive powerhouse he's expected to be, at least the Bobcats will have been able to move Thomas and get a big man just in case. That's assuming they get a good big man for him, which shouldn't be too hard.

Chicago Bulls

4 of 30

Taj Gibson

A fan favorite in Chicago, Taj Gibson is really only in this position because Carlos Boozer's huge contract and disappointing play in the playoffs turn him into a leper.

Gibson played excellently in the playoffs, the majority of the time better than Boozer himself, despite coming off the bench. He anchored the second unit and capped it off with some pretty spectacular plays, one of which was a devastating dunk on Dwayne Wade.

So as hard as it is to say, Gibson is definitely someone the Bulls could fetch good talent for; it's just a matter of if they really would be willing to part with him.

Cleveland Cavaliers

5 of 30

Baron Davis

When he was dealt away to the Cleveland Cavaliers, Baron Davis must not have been to happy about it.

Now that the Cavaliers picked up first pick overall Kyrie Irving, Davis is probably not getting any happier in Cleveland.

Some suggest moving Davis over to the two guard to run a small guard scenario like Stephen Curry and Monta Ellis, which is plausible, but would probably not work out.

Irving is a fantastic point guard and could make a great tandem to run alongside Davis; however, it can really only be viewed as a temporary solution for a larger overall problem.

The Cavs are struggling in the wake of the LeBron James era, so while Tristan Thompson and Irving may further their journey, the pair might not be the answer.

In comes Davis. Move him while he's still an able-bodied point guard and high caliber scorer and get a better shooting guard perhaps to build around Irving, Thompson, Varejao and Jamison.

Dallas Mavericks

6 of 30

Rodrigue Beaubois

On a roster filled with guards, Rodrigue Beaubois' spot on the bench just got tighter when the Dallas Mavericks acquired versatile swingman Rudy Fernandez.

Already competing with Jason Terry, J.J. Barea and Deshawn Stevenson, Beaubois is now seemingly unneeded with this injection of new blood onto the Mavs' veteran roster.

Package him up with a recovered Caron Butler, and the Mavs could maybe pick up a big man to back up Brendan Haywood, Tyson Chandler and Dirk Nowitzki.

The Mavs have a championship roster already, so why not move some pieces that weren't even a factor in the finals and get a welcomed presence in the form of a big man.

Denver Nuggets

7 of 30

Al Harrington

Aaron Afflalo, Kenyon Martin, J.R. Smith and Nene could all end up in free agency. While it's unlikely that the Nuggets would lose all of them, if any of them at all, Al Harrington is still someone the Nuggets could afford to part with.

On a team already set with guys like Danilo Gallinari, Kenyon Martin, Nene and the newly drafted Kenneth Faried, Harrington has his spot full.

A versatile forward like him can be shopped around, and his good shooting and ability to score makes him appealing to teams looking to maybe find a niche scorer.

Detroit Pistons

8 of 30

Rip Hamilton

As one of the few remaining remants of the 2004 Championship team, Hamilton has enjoyed his pull in Detroit, but the time has come for him to get moving.

The Pistons' experimented with bringing in Ben Gordon and Charlie Villanueva, then brought in Tracy McGrady; however, now they have a chance to truly rebuild.

Signing Brandon Knight gave the quality guard with a lot of potential to possibly lead the franchise out of its slump.

The thing is, they need to give him something to work with. Kyle Singler could possibly be a good draft pick, but it probably won't show for a while.

So move Hamilton, the skinny guard can't really weave through defenders like he used to, especially with the bigger, stronger and more capable defenders of today's league hounding him.

In the right offense, though, he is still a very capable scorer, which would make him someone teams would definitely look at.

Golden State Warriors

9 of 30

Monta Ellis

Monta Ellis was one of the biggest names being discussed during the 2011 NBA Draft.

Ellis is a fantastic scoring machine, but his days are definitely numbered with the Golden State Warriors, especially now that they drafted shooting guard Klay Thompson.

The Warriors were making moves to trade him for the Philadelphia 76ers' Andre Iguodala, but nothing really materialized.

Another trade shouldn't be far behind, however, as Ellis has scoring ability that makes him too good to pass up.

The thing is, are his offensive talents enough to overlook the rest of his game where he is lacking?

Houston Rockets

10 of 30

Courtney Lee

The Houston Rockets drafted big this year, picking up most notably Marcus Morris in order to fill the huge void left by Yao Ming due to injury.

Now the Rockets find themselves in need of an offensive presence, perhaps in the form of a guard.

Kevin Martin is a great player and scorer, but the team needs to make some big moves if they want to get back into contention any time soon.

Courtney Lee is a decent defender and capable scorer, but the Rockets just need way more than Lee could probably provide.

Indiana Pacers

11 of 30

James Posey

When the Indiana Pacers acquired George Hill from the San Antonio Spurs in exchange for their draft pick, they picked up a very capable scorer and athlete who can split minutes with Darren Collison.

As for James Posey, he's still left where he was, a forward capable of shooting from beyond the arc, but just not needed on a squad where the positions were already filled by backups like Josh McRoberts and Mike Dunleavy Jr.

He's a good role player off the bench, and that will definitely be Indiana's selling point if they try to move him.

Los Angeles Clippers

12 of 30

Chris Kaman

Former All-Star Chris Kaman is still a quality center, but coming off the bench for DeAndre Jordan, he just hasn't been at that All-Star level he was at before.

The Los Angeles Clippers have the beast known as Blake Griffin; however, they could really use some size. So while Kaman is big at 7'0", they could maybe package him up with someone like Randy Foye in order to obtain a couple big men perhaps, or at least one and then pick one up in free agency.

Los Angeles Lakers

13 of 30

Lamar Odom

The Sixth Man of the Year is one of many players from the Los Angeles Lakers whose name is being tossed into the the trade machine.

Odom is a talented and versatile player. Almost everyone in the league would naturally welcome someone like him, which is why he was included in trade talks during the draft.

Package him up with Andrew Bynum, and you have the Lakers' selling point right there. You can even add Metta World Peace in there, and you have a very nice package.

The thing is, that the three of them were troublemakers in the Finals, and behavioral issues can always be cancerous to a team.

Memphis Grizzlies

14 of 30

O.J. Mayo

The speedy and talented guard was part of the force that was the Memphis Grizzlies, who upset the San Antonio Spurs.

O.J. Mayo is a coveted guard mainly because of his speed and scoring ability. Coming off the bench for Tony Allen, he has been solid.

On another team, though, he could be starting at the shooting guard position and really become the offensive threat he's capable of becoming.

A team like the Chicago Bulls would really be an excellent fit for him, as he would fill their need for a shooting guard who can take the scoring load off of Derrick Rose, or at least until Jimmy Butler can find his role.

Miami Heat

15 of 30

If the rest of the Miami Heat's contracts didn't expire, then this could be a different story. With a new collective bargaining agreement possibly in the works if the lockout doesn't occur, then the Miami Heat could be facing some choices.

If given the choice between Chris Bosh, LeBron James and Dwyane Wade, Chris Bosh would go, right?

Despite his performance in the playoffs and Eastern Conference Finals, the Heat would rather have Wade and James.

In exchange for Bosh, the Heat might even be able to wrangle up a little better talent than they had going into the NBA Finals rather than the team of ring hungry vets they had.

Milwaukee Bucks

16 of 30

Stephen Jackson

Sure, Stephen Jackson was just traded to the Milwaukee Bucks, but regardless of whether he is unhappy with it or not, it will probably not be ideal.

The Bucks have a good set of guards with Beno Udrih, Brandon Jennings and Carlos Delfino. So while Jackson can play either the shooting guard or small forward positions, it's hard to see his "point forward" style of play not clashing with the Bucks' lead playmaker Brandon Jennings.

Jackson would be a better fit somewhere else, and the Bucks could possibly pick up a scoring presence more like what Michael Redd used to be in order to compliment Andrew Bogut and Brandon Jennings.

Minnesota Timberwolves

17 of 30

Michael Beasley

Michael Beasley's name was already being tossed around during the NBA Draft in a few possible trade scenarios.

So the Minnesota Timberwolves should entertain the idea of moving him around. The addition of the newly drafted Derrick Williams and long anticipated Ricky Rubio should be enough to entice All-Star Kevin Love to stay.

By trading Beasley, the T-Wolves could pick up another player to maybe give Rubio, Love and Williams some help in building a contender again.

New Jersey Nets

18 of 30

Jordan Farmar

The New Jersey Nets picked up Deron Williams in a risky maneuver, since both he and back up point guard Jordan Farmar will be free agents next season.

Williams takes priority over Farmar, so why not work to keep Williams and lose Farmar instead? The Nets already drafted an excellent scorer in Marshon Brooks and should try to keep building around Williams, Lopez and Brooks.

Farmar is a good guard off the bench, and there are tons of teams who could use a solid guard off the bench.

New Orleans Hornets

19 of 30

The clock seems to be ticking for Chris Paul, as now his teammate David West is deciding to test free agency.

The New Orleans Hornets, who only have five players under contract, are feeling the pressure to keep Paul from making a beeline for New York or wherever else he would want to play at.

It would likely be a complicated trade, but its something the Hornets should explore, because it almost seems inevitable that Paul will be gone once he becomes a free agent.

They'd surely get something good in return, since Paul, a perennial top five point guard in the league, is on his way to regaining his form after injury.

New York Knicks

20 of 30

There were rumors brewing of a possible trade for Steve Nash in the works, and it was Chauncey Billups who would have been sent off the New York Knicks.

The former NBA Finals MVP is still "Mr. Big Shot" after all, and while he may not be enough on his own grab someone like Nash, packaged with a young player, he's pretty enticing.

Oklahoma City Thunder

21 of 30

Russell Westbrook

If Russell Westbrook can accept his role on the Oklahoma City Thunder as their point guard, then he should have no problem.

The thing is, at UCLA, Westbrook was playing more shooting guard than point guard, so the transition must be difficult.

Westbrook is a phenomenal scoring guard on a similar level offensively to the MVP Derrick Rose, and an excellent slasher and finisher around the rim.

On the Thunder, however, Kevin Durant has to have the ball in the closing seconds and needs to be the man in the clutch, not Westbrook.

Orlando Magic

22 of 30

Dwight Howard wants out of the Orlando Magic; it's obvious. The only question is where would he go and for whom?

There was speculation of a trade involving Andrew Bynum and Metta World Peace, but now it seems that Lamar Odom has become the premier trade bait for the Los Angeles Lakers.

Regardless of where Howard could go, the only thing hindering him is Gilbert Arenas.

Arenas' massive contract will go wherever Howard goes, at least until "Superman" becomes a free agent.

For now, however, it seems that Arenas is his kryptonite anchor, keeping him from flying out of Orlando.

Philadelphia 76ers

23 of 30

Andre Iguodala

Probably the most talked about name around NBA Draft time not to be in the actual draft, the Philadelphia 76ers' Andre Iguodala is probably the most likely to move before next season.

Iguodala, a fantastic athlete and scorer, is seemingly on the cusp of becoming an All-Star. Apparently, he just needs the right team to do so.

The forward was one of the most shopped around names besides Monta Ellis, but once a trade between Philly and the Golden State Warriors never came to fruition, other teams got into the mix.

It's not too late, however, as unlike players like Dwight Howard, he's a bit more attainable.

Phoenix Suns

24 of 30

Steve Nash

The former back to back MVP, Steve Nash found his name in the trading hat as well, as there were rumors of a possible trade between his Phoenix Suns and the Minnesota Timberwolves.

While the pick, which involved draft picks, didn't happen, it doesn't mean Nash is staying put in Phoenix either.

The New York Knicks also seemed to be in the race, offering up their point guard Chauncey Billups in exchange. This too, however, did not materialize.

But expect Nash's name to come up sooner rather than later.

Portland Trailblazers

25 of 30

Brandon Roy

When he first came to the Portland Trailblazers, Brandon Roy was a franchise player and All-Star.

However, once he got injured, he just wasn't the same player anymore.

In the playoffs against the Dallas Mavericks, however, Roy regained a little bit of the hop in his step and even assumed some of the point guard duties.

Now, as he's beginning to get back into rhythm, he could be on the move, especially with Rudy Fernandez gone to Dallas.

This season, he will definitely be expected to assume some more of the duties, especially with Fernandez gone, but he could also be moved in order to get someone who could do what both couldn't.

Sacramento Kings

26 of 30

Francisco Garcia

With the signings of Jimmer Fredette and Tyler Honeycutt, the Sacramento Kings are looking to make what could be their final season in Sacramento a competitive one.

Signing Fredette allows Tyreke Evans to move to his natural position as a shooting guard as the duo combine with big man DeMarcus Cousins.

As for Francisco Garcia, the guard/forward becomes one member on the team that the Kings can shop around in order to help build their team to make a successful run this season.

A good defender and scorer, Garcia may not develop into a superstar any time soon, but he will be able to come onto a team as a solid role player or starter.

San Antonio Spurs

27 of 30

Tony Parker

The other point guard besides Steve Nash being shopped around during the draft, the San Antonio Spurs dangled point guard Tony Parker around in order to get a pick in the draft.

They instead traded away George Hill in order to get athletic draftee Kawhi Leonard.

Now, with an aging Tim Duncan, they find themselves in need of talent besides Manu Ginobili.

That's where Tony Parker comes in. The Frenchman is still a legitimate point guard and arguably a top 10 point guard in the league.

So while the Spurs need to mix it up a bit, a trade to bring in some younger talent would be worth losing Parker.

Toronto Raptors

28 of 30

Leandro Barbosa

While Leandro Barbosa has not been putting up the best numbers of his career since joining the Toronto Raptors, he has been playing pretty solid, aside from injury.

The Raptors, however, drafted big, going with big man Jonas Valanciunas in order to move Andrea Bargnani to his natural power forward position.

Add to that the athletic DeMar DeRozan, as well as Jose Calderon, and the Raptors have a potentially solid starting four.

Trading Barbosa for perhaps another guard could may be be the step they need to get back into the playoffs.

Utah Jazz

29 of 30

Mehmet Okur

Former All-Star Mehmet Okur hit a rough patch this season when he was bitten by the injury bug.

Now his team, the Utah Jazz, has drafted big man Enes Kanter and Alec Burks in the wake of Deron Williams' departure.

Now should Okur return next season, he comes back to a very different team, especially with Paul Milsap and Derrick Favors lying in wait.

Assuming he can regain his form and put up the kind of numbers he did before, he could be moved in exchange for a well needed point guard.

Washington Wizards

30 of 30

Rashard Lewis

With the Washington Wizards selecting talented big man Jan Vesely, Rashard Lewis' days could be numbered.

His large contract, if it were to be unloaded, could only free up the Wizards, allowing them to build around their talented young nucleus of Vesely, John Wall, JaVale McGee and Chris Singleton.

If Shelvin Mack, another new draftee doesn't bring enough, trading Lewis and even Josh Howard for another guard could help build the young Wizards up back towards contending.
