NBA Trade Rumors: 7 Teams That Should Avoid Signing Andre Iguodala

Monte Faison IIJun 26, 2011

Andre Iguodala only scored 14.1 points per game during the 2010-2011 season, and that’s not good.

As his team finished 41-41, the Springfield, Illinois native had career lows in games started, field-goal percentage, free-throw percentage, and steals per game. Known for his defensive presence, "Iggy" as some call him, looks to be traded this NBA offseason away from the Philadelphia 76ers.

Doug Collins spoke about Andre Iguodala’s defensive ability to 76ersGab, saying, “to me he’s a top-five defender. We don’t do a lot of campaigning, but I think he’s as good as defender as there is in the league.”

Though having great defensive skills, this slideshow will provide seven NBA teams that should avoid signing Andre Iguodala this offseason.

The Miami Heat

1 of 7

This would not be a good pickup for the Miami Heat.

Sure they need more depth to the roster, but could they afford a player the caliber of Iguodala coming off the bench providing decent minutes?

One must not forget that the Miami Heat struggled during the NBA playoffs guarding efficient players. If the Heat had better defense, they would possibly be the NBA champions right now.

A trade like this looks tempting, but there still is not enough evidence for them to pick up a player who lacks in the scoring department.

The Boston Celtics

On paper it would look good, but the Boston Celtics don’t need another combo player inside of their system.

Currently, the Celtics have Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett manning the forward positions. Obtaining him to be a transition player would be pointless considering the money they would be paying "Iggy."

Even with Paul Pierce aging at 33 years old, it still wouldn't make sense to obtain a player and pay him good money to come off the bench.

Minnesota Timberwolves

3 of 7

Before the NBA draft, the Timberwolves needed a lot of help on the defensive end guarding some of the most explosive players in the NBA.

That was before they drafted lanky forward Derrick Williams.

Williams, coming out of Arizona, averaged 19.5 points per game in his final season with the Wildcats. Look for Williams to bring an offensive punch to a team that was in need of a forward superstar to help international guard Ricky Rubio.

After firing head coach Kurt Rambis, don't expect the Timberwolves organization to sign a defensive player for a high price.

The Oklahoma City Thunder

No need for a transition player here.

The Thunder drafted only one player in Reggie Jackson in last week’s draft, and are poised to make a run to a Western Conference Championship in 2012.

Though adding Iguodala’s experience would help the young team, there is just too much firepower and little money left over for them to even look at a player of this caliber.

The Golden State Warriors

5 of 7

The Golden State Warriors would seem a good fit for Andre Iguodala until you consider the offensive production after the trade.

Currently the Warriors have a number of guards on the roster, including sensation Stephen Curry, who averaged 18.6 points per game last season. Adding an anemic player like Andre Iguodala would only hurt them.

Yes, the rumor mill continues to churn out information that Monta Ellis is asking out of Golden State, but giving up Monta Ellis in return for Iggy would be too big of a gamble.

The Chicago Bulls

6 of 7

The Chicago Bulls have a rather deep bench and are not looking to trade for just defensive players this offseason.

Also, currently the Bulls are considering Vince Carter or O.J. Mayo at the guard position.

Both of these players are more productive offensively than Andre Iguodala and can bring in more ticket sales than a player who is now beginning to hit his career lows in several categories.

With the addition of small forward Jimmy Butler, the Bulls are now stacked on their roster.

Unfortunately, it just wouldn't make sense to pick up a defensive player with limited offensive skills.

The Phoenix Suns

7 of 7

The Suns just picked up one of the twins from the University of Kansas in Markieff Morris.

With his addition, there is not a need for a forward such as Andre Iguodala. The Suns are currently looking for a guard and a shooting guard to hep them put points on the board.

Why a guard you ask?

Steve Nash is entering the last year of his contract and looks to pull a Lebron James if more help does not arrive.
