2011 NBA Draft: Power Ranking Each Team's Lottery Result

Matt JonesJun 24, 2011

At long last, the NBA Draft has come and gone. All of the selections are in, and the players will soon have a press conference to be introduced to the local media and fanbases.

While every team thinks that they draft the best available player at the position they draft in, the teams in the lottery are looking for the biggest rewards.

The following slideshow will rank the lottery results for each of the lottery teams in this year's draft.

The addition of the veteran players that were traded in the three team deal that took place in the first round would definitely change the rankings, but this slideshow will focus only on the new players taken in the draft.

12. Milwaukee Bucks: Tobias Harris 19th Overall

1 of 12

Perhaps not the biggest winner in terms of the new players added via the draft, they did find a way to improve their team in what many called a weaker draft.

Instead of focusing on a new player, they traded the 10th pick of Jimmer Fredette for a trio of veterans and the rights to Tobias Harris.

Harris is an undersized power forward who played at Tennessee. He has the potential to be a solid NBA player, and many have called him the sleeper of this draft.

Also headed to the Bucks are Stephen Jackson, Shaun Livingston and Beno Udrich.

11. Phoenix Suns: Markieff Morris 13th Overall

2 of 12

The selection of Markieff Morris will fill a need for the Phoenix Suns to improve its overall defense.

Selected with his brother Marcus and San Diego State's Kawhi Leonard still on the board, the Suns selected him to play the power forward position.

Morris focuses on defense and is a solid rebounder. He will add a big body that will see his share of minutes for the Suns, who have now improved its defense with this pick.

Even though many thought that Markieff's brother was the better of the two, Markieff has bragging rights due to being selected one pick higher than his brother.

10. Houston Rockets: Marcus Morris 14th Overall

3 of 12

Selected one pick after his brother Markieff, Marcus Morris will have an immediate impact on the Houston Rockets.

With the Rockets in desperate need of big men, Morris should be able to fill that need for them. He brings with him size, athleticism and the ability to play both forward positions.

He has a good offensive game, and if he and Chase Buddinger can find a way onto the court at the same time, it may be a good scoring duo for the Rockets.

9. Golden State Warriors: Klay Thompson 11th Overall

4 of 12

The Golden State Warriors needed defensive help in the front court, but couldn't resist taking the type of player that they love.

Klay Thompson is a scorer who has great range. He will add height to the guard position and will be a part of the already offensive minded Warriors who feature Monta Ellis and Stephon Curry.

His style of play fits well with the Warriors, but unless they find help in other areas, they could soon return to the draft lottery.

8. Toronto Raptors: Jonas Valanciunas Fifth Overall

5 of 12

As part of the record four international players taken in the lottery, Jonas Valanciunas may be the best of all of them.

The Toronto Raptors will have the opportunity to pair him with Andrea Bargnani and create an athletic front court.

The knock on Valanciunas is that he must get bigger and stronger. The possibility of him staying in Europe and not helping the Raptors is a concern. When he does arrive in the NBA, he will be a key piece of the puzzle for Toronto.

7. Washington Wizards: Jan Vesely Sixth Overall

6 of 12

For the second year in a row, the Washington Wizards drafted well and got the selection right. They not only selected one of the most athletic players in the draft, they filled a need at the small forward position.

Many have compared Jan Vesely to a young Andrei Kirilenko. His shooting is suspect at times, but he makes up for it with his athleticism and above the rim play.

He will be a nice player who could start soon and play alongside John Wall, Andray Blatche and JaVale McGee.

6. Detroit Pistons: Brandon Knight Eighth Overall

7 of 12

While some are calling Brandon Knight the steal of the lottery, the Detroit Pistons selected a guard that they do not necessarily need.

Heading into the draft, the Pistons needed a big man and must have been somewhat shocked to see the Cavaliers select Tristan Thompson with the fourth pick.

Knight was regarded by many to be the second best point guard in the draft and to be a top five, and even top three, pick.

The advantage that he will have is that he is going to a team who has a good point guard in Rodney Stucky, and he can learn slowly without the pressure of performing at a high level immediately.

Brandon Knight should turn out to be one of the top players in this draft class for years to come.

5. Sacramento Kings: Jimmer Fredette 10th Overall

8 of 12

The most hyped player in this year's draft was selected with the 10th pick by the Milwaukee Bucks. After his selection, Jimmer Fredette was quickly included in a three team trade deal that sent him to the Kings.

Playing in Sacramento, who had shown interest in Jimmer, could be a great fit for both Jimmer and the team.

He will run a high powered offense made up of he, Tyreke Evans and DeMarcus Cousins. Also included in the trade was John Salmons. Sacramento will become even more of an uptempo, high scoring team.

If Jimmer can have a similar affect on the Sacramento Kings that he had in college, there will be no way that the team will leave Sacramento. He will energize the fanbase and will quickly become a very popular player.

4. Derrick Williams: Minnesota Timberwolves Second Overall

9 of 12

Derrick Williams is one of the most athletic and best players that was available in this draft. By himself, he will make a team better and could make an impact on the team.

The Minnesota Timberwolves could not afford to make the wrong pick in the second spot, and drafted the athletic Williams despite having an already crowded front court.

One challenge for Williams will be getting playing time and going to a team that will be adjusting to a new system and a new head coach.

Unfortunately for Williams, being in Minnesota could slow down his promising and highly touted career, and his playing time could be limited.

3.Charlotte Bobcats: Bismack Biyombo Seventh Overall, Kemba Walker Ninth Overall

10 of 12

At the top of our list are the three teams that exited the lottery with two quality players.

The Charlotte Bobcats, who have been known for drafting poorly, got it right this time.

As part of the three team trade, the Bobcats got a relatively unknown player, and later picked an NCAA tournament star.

Bismack Biyombo will instantly become a defensive force and could soon start for the Bobcats. His offensive skills are limited, but he can learn how to finish around the rim.

In addition to Biyombo, who was part of the three team trade, the Bobcats also drafted Connecticut point guard Kemba Walker.

It will not take long for Walker to push current point guard D.J. Augustin out of his starting job.

Kemba is a winner who is highly competitive and makes other players around him better, all things that the Charlotte Bobcats could use.

The Bobcats also picked up veteran Corey Maggette in the trade.

2. Cleveland Cavs: Kyrie Irving First Overall, Tristan Thompson Fourth Overall

11 of 12

While the Cleveland Cavaliers did what everyone expected them to do with the first overall selection and pick Kyrie Irving, it was the player they selected fourth that was the first surprise of the draft.

Irving will join a team that has several point guards, and the Cavaliers have the luxury of keeping Baron Davis to teach Irving how to play in the NBA. They may also trade Davis away and give Irving the starting job early in his career.

Tristan Thompson is a big power forward that the Cavaliers have liked for some time. He will be a solid player and will have a quicker impact than some of the international players would have. He is a young guy that could still be growing.

Thompson was projected to go later in the draft, but the Cavaliers liked him and selected him with the fourth selection.

1. Utah Jazz: Enes Kanter Third Overall, Alec Burks 12th Overall

12 of 12

At the top of the list is the Utah Jazz. This draft presented one of the best draft opportunities in franchise history, and they took advantage of it.

Not only did they draft Enes Kanter, the best big man available in the draft, they also drafted who many thought was the best shooting guard in Alec Burks.

Although Kanter joins a Jazz front court that includes Paul Millsap, Al Jefferson, Derrick Favors and fellow countryman Mehmet Okur, he will challenge for minutes early in his career.

Kanter has the luxury of going to a team where he can take some time to develop and learn the NBA game while playing behind these players. He will not be expected to come in and be the face of the franchise immediately and can take time to improve his game.

His high level of energy and natural talent will be an asset for the Jazz for years to come.

Alec Burks is a player that many felt would be a perfect fit for the Jazz. As an athletic combo guard, he will be able to play both positions. Some feel that his outside shooting is suspect, but he will work with Jazz assistant coach Jeff Honacek to improve.
