WWE Money in the Bank: 10 Superstars Who Need the Briefcase
In less than four weeks, the second-ever Money in the Bank PPV will occur, likely with two Money in the Bank ladder matches.
In the first occurrence of the PPV last year, Smackdown and RAW each had their own briefcase for their brand's respective world championships. The Miz won RAW's Money in the Bank match, while Kane won Smackdown's match. Kane cashed in the title shot later that night, while The Miz waited until an episode of RAW in November.
The ninth and 10th Money in the Bank matches will try to follow the perfect 8-0 record that previous briefcase holders have had in their world title matches. There has never been a person to cash in that has not won the world title, making the possession of briefcase as close to a guarantee as the WWE has.
Here are 10 superstars, five from RAW and five from Smackdown, who could do a lot of good for themselves in their careers to win the briefcase in their respective brand's Money in the Bank matches.
10. Jinder Mahal
1 of 10
Jinder Mahal has been on a hot streak since joining the WWE, aligning himself with The Great Khali and showing his dominance in the handful of matches he has had.
With Khali finishing off many of Mahal's opponents, just imagine how dominant Mahal would be if he could snag the Money in the Bank briefcase. Much like how Muhammad Hassan was planned to be a world champion during his run a few years ago, Mahal can pick up where Hassan left off.
9. Alex Riley
2 of 10
As seen in the picture, Alex Riley has some experience with holding a briefcase. He was aligned with The Miz when he won the briefcase a year ago and helped The Miz keep the title for a few months.
What better way to rise up against his former boss than for Riley to win the same accomplishment that The Miz did 12 months ago?
8. Mark Henry
3 of 10
Mark Henry is a very strong and powerful man that was slated to surprise many and be a dominant part of Friday Night Smackdown. Turning heel, he has had a hard time getting on track since changing brands.
Mark Henry began on Smackdown as seemingly a top contender for a world title shot, only to have audience approval squander that. He would have matches on Superstars, only for Johnny Curtis to never come out to fight. He would even have matches with Big Show, only to be attacked prior to the match.
Mark Henry has been in two Money in the Bank matches and has lost both of them. He has never been a world champion in his career and, among the championships that he has held in WWE, none of them are active anymore. Henry has done a lot of hard work to merit keeping his spot on the roster, so why not reward him with a briefcase?
7. Evan Bourne
4 of 10
It isn't like Evan Bourne would be out of his element in a Money in the Bank ladder match.
Bourne has taken place in the match in each of the last two years and has had some of his most memorable moments in these matches. If high-flyers have the advantage in a ladder match, Evan Bourne should be the favorite.
With Bourne close to having a push before his injury, could he be given the push with this briefcase?
6. Wade Barrett
5 of 10
The original NXT winner, Wade Barrett has lost two factions, all of his friends, and now, his Intercontinental Championship.
With nothing left, Barrett could do a lot of good in getting himself back into a world title match, especially with Randy Orton as champion. There may be a lot of heels on Smackdown right now, but nobody has a prior history with Orton like Barrett.
Barrett will be a future world champion, so why not have him finally gain the world title he deserves on his own, without The Corre and Nexus?
5. The Miz
6 of 10
If CM Punk does actually leave WWE, none of the Money in the Bank winners from before 2010 will still be in WWE. Jack Swagger, Kane and this man, The Miz, will be the only Money in the Bank winners that are still around.
Punk is the only man to win the match twice, but The Miz can match Punk's mark if he can win the briefcase again.
Since losing his WWE Championship, The Miz has tried to win it back, but has had bogus reasons for not doing so. With his feud with Alex Riley, The Miz is now fighting rookies while R-Truth has jumped over him to fight John Cena.
The Miz has a historically long reign, only to be buried on RAW now. He has a lot more fans post-title than he did before it and many say that he looks strange without gold.
4. Daniel Bryan
7 of 10
Bryan is one of the best technical wrestlers in the world right now and proved his worth to the company when he won the United States Championship, becoming the first NXT rookie to win gold in WWE.
Now on Smackdown, Bryan is one superstar in a rare breed on the brand: a face.
The top of the card is very heel-heavy where it is almost like it is Randy Orton against the bad guys. Who is the No. 2 face on Smackdown? Why can't Daniel Bryan emerge as that guy?
3. Drew McIntyre
8 of 10
Unless you don't watch Superstars or didn't see him lose to Zack Ryder in a dark match on RAW Monday night, The Chosen has been all but absent. He has even changed his name, referring to himself as The Great American Nightmare.
McIntyre has what it takes to be a champion and has fallen on hard times in the creative aspect of WWE.
Now that Triple H is revamping the creative team and putting in people he likes, he can use the advice of his friend, Shawn Michaels, who elevated McIntyre's stock when he spoke highly of the young man.
McIntyre needs another loss like he needs a hole in the head.
2. Cody Rhodes
9 of 10
Cody Rhodes arrived at WrestleMania when he took out Rey Mysterio. Since then, he has built up a huge villain gimmick with the paper bags, the paranoia and all of that jazz.
The problem that lies with Rhodes is his lack of chances for championships. He will probably be in a Money in the Bank match, like he was last year. Winning it will only validate the hard work that Rhodes has put in over the last year to make him a blip on the radar.
1. Alberto Del Rio
10 of 10
Simply put, it is his destiny.
Alberto Del Rio deserves a world championship and should get one pretty soon. We have all heard Del Rio wishes to challenge John Cena at SummerSlam. Who says he can't walk in there as WWE Champion after cashing in on a weakened Cena?
