WWE: Real Winners from Capital Punishment PPV

David LevinJun 20, 2011

While there were a few surprises last night at the WWE Capital Punishment pay per view, there were real winners no matter what the outcome was during matches.

With IMPACT starting to make a move in the right direction, I was curious to see who would be victorious in matches that mattered. And while most of the outcomes were not shocking, I get the impression the IMPACT Slammiversary pay per view last week had more impact on the wrestling scene.

This pay per view was not great, but it was not awful either. Maybe a seven on a scale of ten.

R-Truth

1 of 5

He won while he lost.

R-Truth proved he can carry the load and be a headliner on a PPV.

It also proved that while his character needs to be refined, it is a darn good character.

Time will tell if Truth gets another crack at Cena or the company will move on to another story.

Dolph Ziggler

2 of 5

He claimed the United States Heavyweight Championship from Kofi Kingston. This will either continue the war between the two (I hope not) or put Ziggler back in the hunt for the WWE world title.

Ziggler got the shaft when Edge retired. He has fought hard to retain his spot in the title picture, but others have passed him by.

Now with the title in hand, he can concentrate on bigger things like a world title.

Ziggler's drive and his ability are very much on par. His mic skills are getting better. And of course, there is Vickie Guerrero.

Alex Riley

3 of 5

I was not sold on Riley getting the push like this so early, but it works. It also keeps the story line alive with The Miz.

The Miz seems to be on a free fall and may not be in the title hunt right now, but the feud with Riley is great theater.

Riley showed he can be a main-eventer in time and could challenge for championship gold sooner than we think.

CM Punk

4 of 5

He finally got a win on a pay per view event after nine tries.

Punk is a man who the WWE needs to balance the powers. John Cena wanted to work an angle with him, but the writers seem to think his battle with Rey Mysterio Jr. was a better fit.

Personally, I think Punk is a great character that fans feed off of. He is in line to be one of the better heels of the decade.

If he rids himself of The Nexus, he could seek world gold.

Ezekiel Jackson

5 of 5

He won the Intercontinental Championship over Wade Barrett. This may be the win he needs to propel him to main event status.

Jackson is now in line to challenge (if the storyline allows) Randy Orton for the title, but only if Orton and Christian settle their differences first.

Jackson has the look and the presence to be a champion in this brand for many years.
