WWE: Is This as Good as It Gets for Vince McMahon's Company?
John Cena sucks. No, he doesn’t, he’s just misunderstood. Randy Orton deserves to be a top guy. No, he’s a Prima Donna who’s had everything handed to him. Internet fans are good for the business. No, we’re actually ruining everything.
This is the current state of WWE.
Everyday, Bleacher Report, along with thousands of other sites that cover pro wrestling, are inundated with topics of all kinds. The ones mentioned above seem to have become the focal point of our conversations as fans, so much so that we seem to be repeating ourselves quite a bit.

Most Likely Backlash Heel/Face Turns 🎭
I am as guilty as anyone, as I myself have written my fair share of columns on Cena, Orton and a handful of other issues that we all debate everyday as fans. So, yes, add my name to the pile of those who are on the record as giving their opinion, and being told by others that we’re either completely wrong, or that we’re right on the money in our analysis.
While pondering this very topic, it occurred to me that as fans—more specifically WWE fans—we all seem to be waiting for something to happen.
We debate the same stories and talent involved with this company every day of the week. We go in ridiculous circles as to the endless how’s and why’s of every angle, either real or imagined, that we can conceive of.
We strive to understand. We live to criticize. We yearn for fulfillment. Most importantly, we believe.
We believe that at some point, things will change. A new WWE Superstar will be unleashed upon the world, one who will set the business on fire with a fresh approach, giving us a new optimism for the business we love.
A new concept will be developed, one that we as fans have never seen before, something that will revitalize WWE and all it stands for. It will bring us together in common agreement that this is what will keep us watching for years to come.
But what if none of this happens? What if what we are seeing right now, today, from WWE, is the best they have to offer as the preeminent pro wrestling entertainment company?
Is this as good as it gets?
Five years from now, will we still be debating the good and bad of John Cena as the face of WWE? Will Randy Orton still be as relevant then as he is now? Will we as fans grow any more knowledgeable about the business, or will we all continue to remain in the dark, as our critics suggest?
Understanding that storylines and gimmicks come and go in cycles, it is reasonable to assume that WWE will not be the same five years from now. Surely who’s hot right now will evolve into other roles, perhaps sharing the spotlight with workers who may or may not be on the roster right now.
Right?
It seems hard to imagine a WWE without John Cena. Love him or hate him, he is the face of the company, and seemingly represents all that Vince McMahon wants WWE to be. Despite all the controversy surrounding him, and there is a considerable amount, RAW would simply not be RAW without him.
Okay, so, if we assume he’s not going anywhere, then what about Orton?
Randy Orton supposedly has Vince’s ear, thus getting his way backstage. He is a hot commodity who appears to be in charge of his own fate with WWE. So, is he truly in for the long haul like Cena?
Pro wrestling fans are, to paraphrase Batman creator Bob Kane, a curious and insatiable lot. We love a thousand things about WWE, and hate a thousand more. We know exactly what we want to see, yet are not satisfied when the company acquiesces. Are we going to change anytime soon? Probably not.
What of the other burning topics of interest among WWE fans right now?
Christian should still be world champion. No, he’s not what WWE is looking for. Daniel Bryan is underutilized as a worker. Nah, he’s nowhere near Superstar material, forget him.
There are plenty more, as our cup continues to run over. We all have our opinions, we all have our own distinct points of view. This will never change.
What does the future hold for WWE? Who knows. But, what is known is that tomorrow, another column debating the pros and cons of John Cena will be published. We will again talk about Randy Orton and whether or not he deserves anything he has. We will also continue to criticize each other as individuals, and as a collective.
What can you say? We’re pro wrestling fans, this is what we do. So, time to cowboy up and stop complaining. Right?
Now, back to that R-Truth commentary about the fact he has earned a WWE Title run. No, stop it, you’re wrong, he has!
And the song remains the same.
