WWE: Barack Obama at Capitol Punishment and the 15 Biggest PPV Celebrity Cameos
Hello Folks! Welcome to my first video slideshow, detailing some of the biggest celebrity cameos at WWE pay-per-view.
This is in light of WWE using President Obama in their campaign from promoting their next pay-per-view—see what I did there?
So sit back, relax and enjoy all of the slides as I take you back to look at some of the biggest and most memorable celebrity moments.
15. Ice-T
1 of 16Ice-T made a cameo at WrestleMania 2000, rapping the Godfather down to the ring.
Pimpin’ ain’t easy.
14. Motorhead
2 of 16Motorhead are famous within the wrestling industry for providing Triple H with his theme music.
They made two appearances at WrestleMania—the first was at WrestleMania X-Seven.
Triple H himself has said that it was a great honour to have Motorhead play him down the ramp live. (Said in his DVD, The Game)
They played again at WrestleMania 21.
I’m not sure they were the best performances ever, as it isn’t my type of music (is Lemmy supposed to sing like that?), but it was big star power and a huge part of arguably the best WrestleMania of all time.
13. Snoop Dogg
3 of 16Snoop Dogg has had a range of cameos on WWE Television, featuring in WrestleMania XXIV. He attacked Santino on this particular occasion.
His most recent appearance was at this year’s WrestleMania where he judged a singing contest that Zack Ryder should have rightfully won with his rendition of "Friday."
Woo, Woo, Woo, You Know It.
12. Butterbean
4 of 16WrestleMania XV featured a Brawl for All match—a legitimate fighting contest which Bart Gunn had dominated throughout the year.
Butterbean was Bart Gunn’s opponent and knocked him out in the first round.
It was a good cameo appearance by Butterbean. I don’t know how good it would have been if Butterbean had been the one staring at the lights.
11. Vinnie Jones
5 of 16In a U.K exclusive PPV, Capital Carnage, Vinnie Jones made a cameo appearance, using his tough guy persona to confront the bureaucracy of The Corporation.
He got into a heated argument with the Big Bossman and shoved him outside the ring, prompting the referee, Gerald Brisco, to give him a red card, alluding to his football career.
This cameo appearance ranks as one of my favourites.
10. Snooki
6 of 16Snooki was the biggest celebrity at this year’s WrestleMania.
She impressed me and many others by performing a handspring elbow, reminiscent of Chyna.
The star of Jersey Shore provided an entertaining WrestleMania moment and was better than I thought she would be, coming from a reality TV show.
09. Pete Rose
7 of 16Pete Rose, a legendary baseball player, made his first appearance as a guest ring announcer and was ultimately tombstoned by the Big Red Machine.
This happened in three consecutive WrestleManias.
It is because of this that Pete Rose was the first celebrity induction into the WWE Hall of Fame.
It was voted as a WrestleMania 22 "big time moment," so it must have been big—WWE said so.
08. Chuck Norris
8 of 16Chuck Norris has gained a cult following, especially with the rise of the Internet that makes his appearance at Survivor Series 1994 even bigger.
The martial arts expert was brought in as a special guest enforcer for a match between The Undertaker and Yokozuna.
This was to prevent a repeat of the interferences that led to the Undertaker’s defeat at the Royal Rumble 1994.
He proved to be an effective enforcer as he knocked Jeff Jarrett on his ass with a Superkick to rival that of Shawn Michaels.
07. Mickey Rourke
9 of 16In 2008, Mickey Rourke starred in The Wrestler, a feature film for which he had to train as a professional wrestler.
He ended up in a mini-feud with Jericho in the lead up to WrestleMania XXV.
This culminated with Jericho calling Mickey out, and receiving a left hook for his troubles.
It made for a memorable celebrity WrestleMania moment.
06. Donald Trump
10 of 16Donald Trump made a cameo appearance at WrestleMania 23, the culmination of a feud with Vince McMahon—the battle of the billionaires.
Bobby Lashley represented Donald Trump and Umaga represented Vince.
This was a hair vs. hair match. Bobby Lashley won, and Vince had his head shaved by the billionaire Donald Trump.
Though it was a predictable outcome, it was fun to see Donald Trump involved with the WWE.
05. Drew Carey
11 of 16Drew Carey made an appearance at Royal Rumble 2001, entering the rumble in the hopes of gaining a title shot at WrestleMania...
After the Hardy’s eliminated themselves, Drew was looking in fine form—then the Big Red Machine showed up.
Kane didn’t fall for Drew’s futile attempts to bribe him and Carey ended up eliminating himself to save his skin.
I couldn’t find an un-blurred version of events. Please forgive me.
He was inducted to the WWE Hall of Fame this year.
04. Mr. T
12 of 16I watched the main event of WrestleMania I in preparation for this article. While watching, I noticed how good Mr. T looked in the ring.
He managed to execute moves that some of the Tough Enough contestants of this year couldn’t even get right.
It sheds a completely new light on his performance.
I have to believe that having Mr T in the main event of the first WrestleMania contributed to its success.
This started a long tradition of including celebrities at the biggest event of them all.
He also competed in WrestleMania 2, against Roddy Piper in a boxing match.
03. Muhammad Ali
13 of 16Muhammad Ali, like Mr. T, was in the main event at WrestleMania as the special guest referee for the main event.
He made his presence felt when chaos broke out in the middle of the match, and he clocked Piper.
He also tried to swipe at Ace (Cowboy Bob Orton), who was trying to enter the ring.
There was no way he couldn’t be on this list.
Having arguably the most famous boxer ever on the biggest pay-per-view in the wrestling industry was monumental.
02. Floyd Mayweather Jr.
14 of 16Big Show returned at WWE No Way Out 2008, and picked on Rey Mysterio to make an impact.
Floyd Mayweather Jr., who was sat in the audience, took exception to this and jumped the guard rail.
Surrounded by his entourage, he stared down Big Show in the ring.
The giant got to his knees and offered Mayweather a free shot—he subsequently unleashed a flurry of punches upon Big Show’s nose.
He legitimately broke it, and was chased out of the ring by an angry giant.
Big Show’s nose truly was a mess.
The reaction to this, coupled with Shane McMahon coming out to calm Big Show down, led many to believe that this was a shoot.
An extremely successful cameo appearance at this PPV led to a match between the two at WrestleMania XXIV.
01. Mike Tyson
15 of 16I believe this cameo by Mike Tyson in early 1998, was helpful to the beginning of the Attitude Era.
Originally aligned with Shawn Michaels, he was elected to be the special guest enforcer in the main event at WrestleMania XIV.
Shawn Michaels looked to have the perfect ally to allow him to overcome Steve Austin. Mike Tyson turned on Michaels and counted his shoulders down.
After declaring Steve Austin the new WWF Champion, he knocked Michaels out with a right hook.
A celebration ensued following this.
Barack Obama?
16 of 16Will Barack Obama make an appearance at Capitol Punishment? I highly doubt it, unless he is digitally inserted into some vignettes as he has been for the promotion of the PPV.
If he does appear, however, it will guarantee the PPV will be remembered for years.
I hope you enjoyed the list. Please leave comments below, if you agree or disagree. I do my best to reply to all comments I receive.
