WWE: Profiling Future Stars, Part 10: FCW Superstar Lucky Cannon

Ryan FryeJun 3, 2011

For weeks now, I have been profiling superstars from the World Wrestling Entertainment's Developmental Territory: Florida Championship Wrestling.

These FCW Superstars have stood out from the rest of the pack, and many will become future WWE Superstars.

Today, I profile your current FCW Champion, Lucky Cannon.

Cannon was born into a family with six kids on August 20, 1987. From a young age, Cannon was interested in wrestling thanks to his brother Shaun. Real name Jonathon Emminger, he played quarterback in the Arena Football League and for the NFL's St. Louis Rams.

In 2008, Emminger was signed to the WWE's developmental territory: Florida Championship Wrestling. Under the ring name Johnny Prime, he would impress FCW brass enough over a few years to compete on of the second season of WWE NXT, with the name Lucky Cannon.

He changed his name since the WWE felt they already had too many Johns on the roster (i.e. John Cena, John Morrison).

With Mark Henry as his pro, Cannon would display a quite boring personality, and to me, he had nothing special. Honestly, he was a guy I could not stand. The voters agreed, and Cannon wouldn't last long on NXT.

In FCW, he would turn heel and FCW General Manager Maxine became his new manager. He would win the FCW Championship, only to lose it to Bo Rotundo last month.

Cannon is currently on NXT Redemption and has earned the nickname "Mr. Steal-Your-Girl." Cannon's heel turn has made him somewhat interesting, although I still feel bored when watching him.

What's next for Lucky Cannon?

SmackDown is in need of mid-carders, specifically heels. Cannon could bring just that, while also getting the chance to evolve his character. And Maxine, who does a great job of drawing heat, could move to the "B-Show" with him.

Another possibility would be to team with former pro, Mark Henry, or current NXT pro, Tyson Kidd. Kidd has been a tag team specialist in the past, but hasn't done much since. So, forming a team with Cannon could be a short-term answer for all parties involved.

What do you see Cannon doing next? Is he WWE material? Or will he fail to make it to the main roster? As always, feedback is welcome.
